Hey Bungie, don't even think about resetting and making us start new Guardians in Destiny 2

The writers at Forbes are idiots to suggest it. If you're going to make us start over then you need to drop the ranking up and progression completely and turn this into a Halo type experience. If we're going to grind, progress and build our guardians over multiple paid expansions then you need to let us continue with our Guardians we're investing all this time into. Honestly the fact that these writers at Forbes are suggesting a reset is complete crap. If you want a fresh start you can delete and make a new Guardian any time you want. Don't force that bs on others who are invested in their Guardians. Thank-you

They're becoming predictable. They will have an excuse...like some new 'lore' or some other bs. But the truth will be that they need to rebuild this game because the code is trash, and its built up around taking the lag into consideration. And the fact that most of the game has been altered negatively (nerfs) at the request of people who whine, at the request of children. Kids were whining all over the forums and it was hilarious, but Bungie listened...so that rekt the game. Bungie wont make that mistake in D2, unless derp. They will have Dedicated Servers and a Fresh, Clean Destiny 2 experience ready for us, so they will wave that in our faces and we will accept it. #StockholmSyndrome

    • I would like to see a way to move our characters forward, but I don't want to start a new game with fully unlocked subclasses, the same ol' abilities, and a full selection of well-rolled gear. If all of that is still relevant and usable, the argument of "If you don't want to bring it forward just start a new character" doesn't sway me. I don't want to start a new character to try and earn the same or functionally the same stuff I did in Years 1-3. I want new powers. New weapons. And carrying forward all the Year 1-3 stuff will limit the flexibility in design for the new stuff, because at the very least they'd have to keep the old stuff balanced(-ish, another discussion) for Crucible. The link is a longer post of how I envision it happening.

      • To be honest I don't care either way. I think adding more would be ok if they made more classes. A true sequel with new character would be fun as well as long as it's all new classes and stuff.

      • They are just stats with avatars at this point. None of them have personality or any actual impact on the story bits that were included with this game. I'm fine with either way losing them or keeping them. It really makes no difference, even maintaining the stats would be a waste unless the sequel is just a new coat of paint. If the sequel is drastically different PvE and PvP wise then a clean slate may be the better option. Personally I don't care and don't waste your time telling me to "delete your characters then" like you told someone else who disagreed below. I'm sure people will all decide for themselves when the sequel is released.

        • I'm uncertain how I feel about this. A "soft" reset like Mass Effect or even a "medium" reset like TTK wouldn't bother me too much, but I don't want to relevel my classes and subclasses from absolute zero again.

I'd actually like to start with a new character into a full fledged story with new abilities and classes. And then meet my old characters as legendary guardian mentors in the new base of operations, teaching me and giving me quests until I earned their respect. They should tell stories of their (=my) various battles in Destiny 1 and maybe will award me some of their legendary gear from old times, when they think, I'm worthy. You should be able to choose some pieces from your old arsenal and the rest should be displayed in their armories as "treasures from the past". Destiny should evolve as time passes; by simply rolling out new content to the existing core game, we'd still be tied to its limitations (balance, sub-classes, overall handling) IMO.

                  • They promised in the beginning that our characters would carry over into the next game, as part of the ten year plan. That said I believed them, in the beginning. Given bungie's tendencies for lying to our faces, I'm not so sure now! I do say this, if they do pull that crap with destiny 2, then I'm done!!! I didn't put 2 years work and thousands of hours into my characters to start them over, and loose all my weapons and armor!!!!! Bungie needs to keep their word on this, they have lied to us enough!!!!! People who want a fresh start, can delete their guardians and start over, but it shouldn't be forced on the rest of us!!!!!

Really? How does this have so many likes? It's a new game. I do not want the same guardians for 10 years. My guardians now will stay in destiny 1 and I will have 3 brand new ones in destiny 2. That's how it should be. Different sub-classes, abilities, etc. I don't want to keep using the same supers for 10 years.

looking at Destiny 1 lack of inventory space and lack of stuff to do in all DLC because people carry over their guardians / weapons I can honestly think they will reset but not to worry they will let you keep your character appearance / choice of class other choice is Nerf year 2 items to the point were you dismantle them yourself, sub-classes will be nerfed to the point that you have to choose new destiny 2 OP classes

                            • It's always been said that Destiny 2 will be an entire new game where nothing from game 1 will move on other than your character, however you have to assume that it would make no sense to allow the current abilities to move on as not only will it mean having to keep working with the same broken mechanics, but also limiting their abilities to improve on them more. In fact I don't see any reason to keep any of them since in the end they have no names and no permanent mark on the world so even keeping it is really a waste of time for you, and Destiny 2 wont just keep going from Light level whatever the hell it is by then, I think the only thing you'll keep is the grimoire, everything else will be gone. At least If I decide to return for it I wont mind my starting new, my characters are so far behind right now I don't even care if they move on or not.

                            • Given that the level cap was once 20, is now 40, and year three will probably see a small bump to that, it looks like they're setting it up that we will keep our character for many years. Probably max it out at a cap that's around 100 by the end of it all. Personally I wouldn't mind starting new characters, but I do think everyone playing Destiny has to realize that the weapons we all know and love might not make it. Don't get too tied to that stuff. For example, if in the story we progress closer to the Golden Age, ballistic weapons might become obsolete as we convert to energy weapons (that might end up playing the same anyway), add more melee energy weapons, and they would have to reasonably in-game be better than what we've got as a result. We could see something happen where fusion rifles are a primary with a very fast charge rate, or even no charge at all, which I think would be super cool. I like the idea that it's not just my guardian that's progressing, but the species as well. I think they made very overpowered weapons in year one (especially elemental primaries, that was really jumping the gun, so to speak) and it was a huge mistake. It setup an expectation and experience for year one players that is just going to continually frustrate them the longer this game goes.

I am really on the fence about this one. Every dlc falls and we are capped at level and light in a month... roll over our weapons and armor again... do the raid and ib .. then bored out of our minds. It all feels routine. Destiny is a looter shooter, and the gameplay can't really stand up on its own. AkA, play the game JUST because its fun. I can see the argument being made on a casual level with regards to pve but in pvp, i just don't see it. What i would like to see is, our accounts rolling over but effectively being reset aka starting at the beginning of the "new game" based on some event tied to the new story. All accumulated gear and weapons are basically cosmetic at this point. All new weapons and armor, exotic gear is extremely powerful and equally rare. Legendary equipment is very rare and difficult to come by. No more exotic sales from xur. I wrestled with this last one for some time before i realized that this really took so much of the excitement out of the game for me ultimately. MUCH better/more in game social features. Open world pvp, with incentive to do so. Rich compelling cohesive story line. Great music. Sorry i love music in games, i find its one of the most memorable things about a game long term. Do something with the factions in the game. Force players to choose a side and possibly be at war with one another or be compelled to help like faction members. Matchmaking for the nightfall with a light level minimum, use at your own risk. Would be very difficult to do these things unless the level of the overhaul was significant.
