I saw the Forbes Article you referenced. I think its the wrong move to make us restart from square 1 too. However, you can make an argument that it might be better for the game long-term if they made us restart from square 1. I'll preface this argument by making it clear that I am assuming that nothing from Y1-3 will carry forward into D2. We don't know if this will be the case or not at this point, and Bungie has been very tight-lipped bout D2 information. HOWEVER, if this assumption turns out to be true, then maybe it is not such a bad thing to restart from square 1. Doing so would allow Bungie to start over on what is virtually a clean slate as far as weapons balancing and class balancing goes. There would be no weapons in the game at that point that would be considered "gamebreaking" such as Icebreaker was during Trials at the start of TTK. So they would have a little more freedom to remold the world and "fix" things they thought were errors without having to worry about how legacy guns will impact current gameplay. Also, starting fresh and clean ends the debate about whether Y1/Y2 gear, etc. should be moved forward, and it could possibly put an end to the debate on whether elemental primaries should be a thing (one way or another). They can decide elemental primaries should be a thing and make them a permanent thing (and hopefully do it right) or they can decide they had it right all along during TTK. Either way, starting fresh in D2 allows them a clean slate which they can use to provide more consistency on these hot button issues. Let me make it clear. [u][b]I AM NOT advocating to restart from square 1 at the start of D2.[/b][/u] I am merely saying that doing so may allow Bungie more freedom to adjust weapons balance without having to worry about certain weapons which could be problematic because they break all the rules. It would also allow them to push the reset button on certain issues and allow them to establish a more consistent record regarding how gear will progress moving forward. Overall, I don't think it is the right thing to do to start over at square 1. AT MINIMUM, certain things we have MUST carry forward with us 10 years. Emblems and ships, other cosmetics, at MINIMUM, should always be with us. We earned them. And cosmetics do not impact gameplay in any fashion or form. So there is clearly no argument for leaving them behind. Honestly, I hope that they find a way to make this game have more exclusives. Items you could only obtain in a certain era. Not just emblems, ships, shaders, etc. but also weapons. After all, thats what having a LEGENDARY gun is all about. Its an incredibly powerful gun that was used to accomplish incredible things. They should be available on a limited time basis only. Otherwise, future weapons of similar archetypes are just going to be meaningless reskins. But imagine if a Hung Jury or Treads was only obtainable during TTK? Even if other future archetypes are reskins, the name alone shows that you obtained it during an exclusive period and NOBODY who did not play during that period could have one.
