The Road To Dawn Book One: Chapter One "A Single Thread"

The Road To Dawn: Book One: Morning Crimson Chapter One: A Single Thread The red Martian dust blew onto my visor, the light wind blowing into my cloak. I looked down at the ground, the corpse of my robot prey sprawled across the Martian surface. I knelt down, unsheathing my knife from my leggings. Plunging the knife into the vex’s stomach, I slowly edged out its sack of glowing fluid. I wiped the dust off my visor and held the sack closer to my face. “I think this is perfect, don’t you Omicron?” “I think I can convert it to the necessary coolant. Might use a bit of the excess for some testing.” “Good. Any reward I can get from killing these collective minded pieces of junk can help me get out of here.” “You’re right on the collective mind parts, but these gel sacks have so many uses.” “If the vex are so useful, I'll just take a little more than I need.” I reached down to the corpse of the vex goblin, putting my foot on its head. I grabbed the knife again, cutting through its metal neck. The head came off, whatever crimson glow coming from its eye diming to nothingness. “Wait Phantom, let me see something.” Omicron jumped out, scanning the head at every angle. “This has a signal buffer in here! Just what we needed, now we don’t have to worry about building a ship. Cut this side of its head open.” Omicron looked at the head, I took my knife and plunged into the head. “Careful, you might break something.” He said in response. “My bad.” I slowly skimmed the metal off of the side of the head. Omicron quickly jumped in on the action, scanning the head and revealing a small chip in his gaze. I grabbed it, and looking down at the vex tech. “I’ll format it and put it into your helmet, it will just take a moment.” I waited as he put the chip in, hearing something I assumed to be feedback from the newly fixed comms. “All done. Tune into the tower now, we need to get off this red rock.” Said Omicron. I touched the side of my helmet, tuning my comms towards the tower. “Hello! Hello! This is Phantom! Repeat! This is Phantom! I crashed on the surface of mars, my ship is in disrepair. I’ve just managed to repair my comms.” For a second, nothing happened. Then, I began to hear a familiar voice from the comms. “Phantom, I read you loud and clear. This is Cayde. I’ll have a fellow guardian come and take you back to the tower.” “Thanks, I can’t stand this dusty place.” “I know the feeling. Cayde out.” I looked down at the vex head laying on the ground. I picked it up and chucked it as hard as I can into the nearest Martian rock. “What did you do that for! We could have used that for something.” Omicron shouted. “It doesn’t matter anymore.” I looked up at the sky, watching the orange clouds dance about. My cloak fluttered in the wind. I watched as my thread to the heavens began to form. I have to climb it before it snaps, dropping us all down to the depths. ~~~~~~~ Want to read more? • Bump! Maybe capitalize "mars." I'm not gonna say use speech tags (because it just makes it look messy and less "professiona.") just make who's talking a bit more prominent through text. Other than that, great job!
