It was the dead of night at the Dojo. The constant variety of explosions, gun shots, ringing metal, and exerted grunts of warriors from all around was now silence. Most were still just people who needed sleep like everyone else. A few nocturnal creatures and warriors were slinking about doing their nightly duties but overall it was quiet. Stian was almost comically out of place. His thick furs muffled most sound but he was definitely not stealthy. Bright, vibrant blues, reds, and whites were not colors subdued. The browns and blacks helped but not enough. He was carrying a small bag that was pressed tight against his flank. He walked quickly and with purpose. As he came out into the refreshing night air he breathed deep but did not stop. He approached a small clearing where he actually fought a decisive battle against another skilled mage. Nora was her name but that wasn't important. The aftermath was important. While the plants had mostly regrown thanks to Nora's magic, and unmistakable air of darkness and death swirled. It had malicious intent almost, like the air itself had grown a taste for blood. It was perfect for what Stian was intending. He dug into his pouch and retrieved metal chips with Nordic runes etched into them. He first threw up 3 and spoke two words in succession. "Eiwaz. Cheilt ó radharc" The punches glowed in the air and a thin film seemed to stretch over the clearing. It would lower the locations notoriety, making it harder for people to perceive inside. It would work as long as no one had prior interest in him or had a high tolerance for magic. He needed privacy for this. Stian first drew his sword and walked in a large circle around the clearing, dragging his sword to carve a path. He then retrieved a book from the bag he was carrying and laid it out. He began to copy symbols and runes in the book onto the ground. This spell was extremely complex even for him. It refers to magic from all over the world. He spent the better part of two hours creating a huge circle of various spells, runes, and writing that even Stian couldn't fully understand. He then retrieved 5 small relics from the bag, each from a different kind of magic. Nordic Galdr, Japanese Kotodama, Haiti Vodou, Christian High magic, and Egyptian Heka. He then retrieved the last item from the bag, a bloody parcel no larger than a fist. He unwrapped it to reveal a sheep's heart, no older than a day. He walked to the center of the circle and crushed it in his hand. Any blood trapped inside spilled at his feet and into the complex series of symbols carved in the earth. Then he spoke from the book. "glacadh, ukeiremasu, aksepte, accipere, qabul" With each word the blood seemed to first double, then quadruple, and continue to multiply until the entire circle was full. He lastly took his sword and thrust it into the center. He spoke to almost announce it. "ghabhail mo loisgte agus leig dhomh bruidhinn" Stian left the circle and sat just outside its boundaries. And he waited. This time was crucial. The perception barrier held but it must stay for just a while longer. He was so close now. Just nothing had to go wrong. But in Stian's life, something always did.
open to all
• Stian scrambled to get up and whirled around to get a look at the voice. But, he remembered the spell and whirled back. Thankfully, she wasn't close enough to cause a disturbance in the casting. The other spell he cast shimmered and broke above them. The three metal shards landed at Stian's feet and the perception barrier was gone. This is bad. Someone is here and the barrier was broken. No one could be allowed to witness this. Stian kept a small firearm imbued with Nordic runes at his side for emergencies. He guessed it qualified as such an emergency. He drew and pointed it at where the voice had come from and spoke very quietly. "Who are you and why are you here?"

  • Stian scanned his mind for the name. He knew of no such warrior still living called Merlin. However... "Merlin? You hide behind myth and legend? Coward! Don't you have any pride? If you wish to remain anonymous then state your reasoning for being here" Stian wasn't buying whatever cheap gag this man was selling. If he claimed such a title he was a mage like himself. If that were true... Then he could know what Stian was trying to do. This was getting worse by the second. If he was compromised, the organization would come after him. What he was doing is highly forbidden magic. The tomb he had alone was enough to be killed for. "Choose your next words carefully. If you are the Merlin of England that raised King Arthur, you would know of magic beyond my understanding. You would know of the spell behind me-" Stian began to infuse magic into his pistol, charging the carved runes with energy. "You would know that this spell was something I would be killed over"

  • You suddenly feel a sharp pain running through your body, forcing you to your knees. "Tsk. Tsk. Forbidden magic? NOT a very smart idea Stian. Much like Loki in a sense."

  • Stian gasped in pain and squeezed his eyes shut. His whole body was drenched in magic. The sheer amount was making it agonizing. He gritted his teeth and forced himself up. His body reluctantly obeyed but he was not sure how much longer he could stay up. "You think I don't know that? You think I'm not disgusted by this sin? I'm not even a Christian and I pray to Him for forgiveness" Stian threw down his pistol and unslung his heavy furs. He rolled up his sleeves and revealed his runic tattoos. He had to keep him from destroying or disrupting the circle. The time was on the horizon now. If he missed this chance he would have wait another 6 years. "But I had no choice. Don't you see? I looked countless days in scriptures for something else. Some other way. But there isn't one. Why should someone else decide my choices?! THERE'S NO OTHER WAY TO UNDO THIS!" "Soluwo!" Stian raised his arm to Merlin's voice and a powerful lightning bolt shot out and struck. The thunder was deafening and the flash was blinding. Stian didn't care at this point. He was past turning back.

  • Stian was shocked at this reveal to say the least. But his confusion was short lived as he focused on the task at hand. Regardless of their gender, Merlin was not fooling around. She knew this was forbidden magic, and Stian was willing to bet that she wasn't going to let it slide easily. "Keep your distance! I don't care if you're a man, woman, or tiger." Stian floods the runes on his arms once again. "I have to finish this spell. You don't understand what this is all for. No power, no glory, no wealth. None of it. I don't care. I just want one chance to reverse the wrong I did. Is one chance too much to ask?" Stian was lost in thought for a second before sighing. "I guess it is to those that make our laws... But I don't care! Have them kill me! Have them burn me alive! Have them banish me! Do what you will, just let me finish this. I ask, I beg for one chance"

  • She floats over to him, placing a hand on his shoulder. "One single attempt. If you fail, which you most likely will due to its difficulty, I will turn you in."

  • Stian stopped charging his runes and gapped his mouth a little. "I-I'm sorry? You're giving me a chance to do this?" In an instant, his confusion turned to gratitude. "Thank you... Merlin, right? I have no words. I owe you a knight's favor" He was not one to lose himself. He turned back towards the circle and sat patiently. He checked an old watch and saw the spell was minutes from starting.

Stian glanced behind him at Merlin. "This is not your problem. I wish to involve as few people as possible. Less lives to lose" Stian was dead set on the circle. It slowly seemed to deepen as the time drew closer. Almost like the blood was eating the earth, trying to spread its influence. In the moments before the strike of a 6 year anniversary, Stian touched two fingers in the outermost ring of the circle and spoke. "Toisich" At the command the blood glowed a luminous blue. As it spread, it adopted different colors at each of the magical artifacts. A heavy blue at the Nordic runes, a bright purple at the Haitian voduo, energetic red at the Japanese Kotodama, a blinding white at the Christian High Magic, and a subdued gold at the Egyptian Heka.

  • Stian copied complex symbols from his book in front of him. He used his exposed forearms as middlemen to manage the flow of mana. He touched the glowing blood once again and spoke. "a ghabhail nan tairgsean seo agus a 'sealltainn dhomh an fheadhainn a bhruidhneas mi" After that he carved 4 names in the ground in various languages. They all corresponded with the types of magics he used. Except Nordic. "Jameson. Akira. Catherine. Nubia." The circle seemed to respond and writing in a much older language than any he wrote down appeared in front of him. He scrolled through the pages and began to translate the ancient writing

  • Stian finished and his look went from frantic to grim. It was the exchange. In order to actually initiate the spell, an equal cost had to be made. Usually it consisted of human or animal sacrifice but the toll was not that high in this case. He reached into his shirt and retrieved a small chain. On it were four scraps of cloth. It seemed like little but each of those scraps had countless lives packed into them. Long dead souls that would gain no rest as long as they remained. It was the most common types of currency that these spells dealt with. Stian walked to the center, careful not to distort the writing. He placed the scraps at the center where they seemed to vanish in the air. Stian waited for what seemed like an eternity when the glowing ceased and the circle lay quiet. The stillness was only broken when Stian's body hit the ground and he lay still.
