When something like this happens and a lot of people are effected, Bungie trying to troubleshoot one player at a time might not help. Since I don't know enough, I can't say for sure, but it sounds like they're actively investigating something on their end or something other than directly on our end. In a case like that, you don't try to help individuals but rather everyone at once.
