Will Microsoft Phase out the Xbox one, when the Scorpio releases?

I've a feeling the Xbox one won't be around for much longer, when the Xbox Scorpio releases. It doesn't make sense for Microsoft, to build such a powerful beast of a console, without phasing out the underpowered xb1. Xb1 will hold back Scorpio, if they go for parity, equal framerates. By this time next year, the xb1 would've been out four years. That's how long the original xbox lasted and before the Xb360 came out. The last gen was longer than usual, for a console life cycle. I can see a much shorter console life cycle in the future. Every four year for a new console is ok with me, was at least a year before we started getting current gen only games on the PS4. The days of long console cycles are behind us guys. I believe Microsoft, Sony are testing the waters with the mid-cycle console refresh, taking note of the conversion numbers. I'd give two years at max after the Scorpio releases, before Microsoft start bringing out exclusive games for the Scorpio. What do you think guys and is the Scorpio the end for Xbox one?

So for starters I think this "end of console generations" is just some PR buzz BS that's been thrown around before. Companies will say whatever is convenient to sell their present day product. Do you think Microsoft is never going to play the "Oh but this is the real next gen Xbox! You have to buy this!" Like come on people. Do I think they're going to phase the Xbox One out? Well that depends on what Scorpio is. I believe that Microsoft is going to be keeping a close eye on how confused consumers are with the plethora of PS4 models coming out. I can envision the scenario where the Scorpio and PS4 Pro supplant the current Xbox One and PS4 as the low price mass market model once the PS5 and whatever you want to call the future Xbox come around. Microsoft has two choices then: Go bold, dump the Xbox One name, and market this thing as a new Xbox that plays all of your Xbox One games. Or do they go the same route Sony is by naming the Scorpio something along the lines of the "Xbox One Elite" and promise all Xbox One games will play on both consoles. I think how the PS4 Pro is received will influence that decision somewhat.

Codename Scorpio isn't a new console. It's an iterative upgrade to the Xbox One. Both will play the same games, but they'll run better on CS. Now I'm wondering about names, given Sony's PS4 Pro: Xbox One Max? Xbox One Turbo? Xbox One Point One? Meh, MS tends to come up with less cheesy names, so I'm expecting something slicker. VG just reminded me of the Elite, so it'll almost certainly be that, considering the One S too.

    • Lol, let's just wait and see if the Scorpio is the Scorpio at launch. It's along way aways, and things can change.
The futures uncertain, and the end is always near
• Do you think everyone in the world would fork out money for Scorpio?

    • Well. Microsoft is apparently planning to end console cycles completely with the Scorpio. I don't see how that's possible unless the speculation that it's going to be an upgradeable console is true.

    • Microsoft has said they are trying to end console generations with the Scorpio. And that every game will be playable on all three. They have yet to bring up the possibility of Scorpio exclusives.

    • They should add graphics options to the newer games coming out in 2017, like on PC. That way, you could get the best performance out of the Scorpio while still keeping the game on Xbox One.

      • It'll likely be significantly higher in price. They'd do better to continue offering a "lower" and "higher" end XBox model. To be honest, I really hope it doesn't usurp the XBox. I want it to succeed but not prove so lucrative that manufacturers get a taste for that iPhone stream of product updates.

        • From what I've read, Microsoft believes the Scorpio will be the last console of the console generation. “We Think the Future is Without Console Generations,” - Aaron Greenberg Sources: https://www.engadget.com/2016/09/08/console-generations-ps4-pro-xbox-scorpio/ http://wccftech.com/microsoft-last-console-project-scorpio/ http://www.alphr.com/games/1002585/xbox-scorpio-is-this-the-last-console-microsoft-will-ever-make

Probably lol maybe the bigger one, that one is hidious and had many issues with it. The Xbox s seems to be a more ideal product to push as a cheaper alternative to the scorpio. Not to mention it's much, much sexier.

            • I remember a article saying they will turn to "generations" Something about replacing parts and upgrading rather than buying whole new console (like a pc) but i saw in comments people were confused how they could set a game to work on multiple systems. I will be getting scorpio because i know after a year they will have scorpio only games atleast SOME games. Im waiting though im not getting scorpio on release like my xbox... i paid $600ish now its so cheap.. ill wait for cheaper scorpio once they have a gpld library

              • I don't know. They really should have console exclusives for it, build the game around the new hardware instead of just optimizing. Or maybe build the game for the Scorpio, and just tone down a bit to be playable on the one. Perhaps a "Best played on Scorpio" sticker.

No. I feel like they will have a two tier system going forward. Normal gaming and a premium with better graphics and frame rate. I think the xbox one will be supported for another 2 years/ tops 3 and then scorpio will be the norm and something else will become the premium. Consoles will be like phones now. More interactions then drastic jumps.

                      • They have this whole advertisement that every game that is on Scorpio that isn't on vr will be on both. I doubt they can do what you're thinking without losing all of their good PR. They might just release games maximizing its power on VR.

                        • We are still on an around about 5-6 years per gen, we have been since SNES Either way the Scorpio is still an Xbox One so I guess you could call it the 9th gen version since it comes out with the start of the 9th gen
