This is interesting but I suspect a moot point. The fact that the traveler and exo stranger haven't been mentioned since the original Destiny supports the theories that the story has been ripped up and redone and honestly just plain -blam!-ed up.
Why havn't the traveler or exo stranger been part of the story in any of the expansions since Destiny launched? When is the last time the speaker was even mentioned? After playing this game from day one, reading online theories such as this and reading through the Grimoire I have no idea what is going on.
Bungie has made no effort to explain anything that happened in the original Destiny in the last two years. Don't get me wrong, The Taken King was great and it sounds like Rise of Iron is great but they have nothing to do with the traveler or the "main" story at all.

The timeline we are experiencing in game I believe is a much shorter span of time than you think. To us players it's been two years. But in the game it's self it's only been a month or two. That and her story is tied to the Vex. When the Vex story expands I'm sure hers will as well.

Incorrect. We are an extension of the Traveller, therefor any threats to the city and us effect the Traveller as well. If you are expecting magic space dragons to invade and eat the Traveller like an gumball, and the Traveller promptly turns into space RNGesus to save us all, this might be the wrong story you are playing. As for the stranger, yes, she is a holdover from the original weird story of the Traveller being evil and all that. Personally, she is not that important, although it would be nice to get her motivation and backstory. As for the Traveller not being in the story well. . . Got to tower. Spawn. Turn around. Look. Problem solved.

Well, we know most of what we've been these past two years was intended to be in the base game, although it's surely gone through some changes while in development to fit the edited launch story. I try to see it like this: the two years of destiny we've had is a much smaller time-frame in the game. Maybe a few months, not two years. Might be wrong but I'm thinking they're side-quests while the actual story unfolds in the future

Bungie has (in grimoire) been slowly adding to the exo stranger lore. Three cards were added in the TTK plus a few in game ghost scans that are either directly involving her or strongly speculated to be. They haven't left her behind, except in the actual game lol. I'm sure we will see her in destiny 2, otherwise they'd stop adding lore about her

I feel like the story will come back to these things. Life is not necessarily linear in spite of what stories tell us. Things don't necessarily happen in rapid succession, things happen simultaneously. We worked with the Stranger briefly, but got side tracked by advances from the Hive. That doesn't mean we will never hear from the Stranger again. And the Traveller is the implicit center of the story. Why are we under attack? Because of the Traveller. The fight is to protect the Traveller, the last hope for humanity. Details about the Traveller have been far and few between for now, but I'm guessing information will come to light with the continuation of the story arc.
