ok so i have taken a bunch of notes and as of right now it boils down to this: During the Tenebrous Tunnel mission, when we entered the dust palace, we went under the elevator to an empty room. This room contained a SIVA cluster, dormant obviously. This, a glitch supposedly, was the start of the infection, as noted by Owl Sector operative Berriole. Heading into the crucible we spread our isolated infection via Super Orbs, which contain our light and could therefore be a viable way to transmit diseases, assuming light is a chemical substance in some way (which i genuinely believe it is). Even if what I said wasnt true they could still carry the "dormant" SIVA particles. Considering that we found this cluster on mars, it might not even be SIVA. I believe that this is a defense system created by Charlemagne, mars' warmind. SIVA, like all other warminds is sedentary, and based on earth, just like the devils, so it logically cant transfer to mars. Since the glitch room is now "officially" cannon, there really is no other explanation besides Charlemagne has some involvement with what is happening. After the outbreak occurs in the crucible and starts spreading, Owl Sector begins to take note of it. The only Operatives names who we have( right now at least) is Berriole, who is taking charge, and Quist, who no one likes because he's a pussy or something. Berriole, strangely enough, seems to be the only one in the group to be: A field Operative, An intel gatherer, and the only one to know cryptology. Quist... well he just kinda sucks...poor, wimpy, stupid Quist. Anyways, there's one more operative, who we only know by the shortened "chat name" SHU. SHU has a past with Ikora and the rest of the vangaurd, but right now i dont really wanna theorize on who exactly he is. As of right now, it seems Cayde doesnt mind this outbreak as it's symptoms include delirious happiness and strengthened light. Both are references to how pleased we are by these buffs which get us better gear and could get us to higher light levels. Ikora and Zavala on the other hand... well all they care about is ruining a fun time. Besides that Berriole is currently investigateing the Dust Palace and might even find the glitch room. Note: Clearly the more we collect of these viruses the more entries we can access. So think of it as collecting grimoire if interested in lore and treat the Infection process that way if you want to help get us more lore.
