I noticed on that site that Australia has a concentration of the pink-color coded buff. I wonder if they infected one person per "continent" initially, each with one of the five buffs.

Mostly streamers/youtubers have been the first infected. One streamer had someone in their chat called "Owl Sector" who typed out "transference complete" before leaving. At the same time, he had also gotten infected with the virus.
