If you're talking lore wise, than yes, but game wise the virus is no harm. No company would be dumb enough to punish players for playing their game.

Actually two different times MMO's have released bad things into the game system and the community had to figure out what to do to get through it. This is likely going to be another. Read the Owl Sector logs. There is discussion of vision problems and hearing problems in test subjects back from the creation of it. I thought just like you did until today. Now I have my spinmetal hat firmly in place and two uninfected guardians staying out of all this mess.

There is speculation the disease got out from people glitching into the room in the dust palace. If that's the case you can't blame bungie we the players are all responsible.
