Several seemingly unrelated things may be related. First, let's look at the Fallen in the Skywatch. What were they digging for and why was Rasputin protecting it? Second, the Cabal in the Dust Palace were really interested in a section of Mars, but once again Rasputin was there. Third, the Psion flayers are found digging around in the Central AI's cortex, and we are sent to stop them. Fourth, we are sent to fend off attacks from both hive and fallen in Rasputin's bunker. Each attempt has been either to gain information or to override RAS systems.
So what does this have to do with Dr. Shim? Well, recent discovers has led to an unexplored area in the Dust Palace. This area, which can be accessed, has the same or similar setup as The Archive on Venus, and items found in Rasputin's bunker. Could it be that Shim has either had a hand in the infections that guardians are experiencing? Or could it be that Shim knows/knew something about RAS and Siva, and our guys at Bungie have been laying the groundwork for this since day one? And if this is this the case, why does our ghost quickly dismiss Dr. Shim's name when he mentions it? Is our ghost telling us everything that we need to know?
