Does anyone know if you can join someones checkpoint that has all 5 (or however anount there is) or do you have to get it yourslef

Yes you can just join them on the final boss phase, as long as they have activated all the terminals prior to your arrival.

You can. I just did, as long as you beat the end boss with them
