"Not quite. Belle from a young age was clearly special. She had something inside her that made her dangerous. At first, I didn't know what it was... She was about a year old at the time. But we find a long line a lineage way back to an ancient summoning... She was half-god. Then the attack... And... Well... I got her back... That's what counts."
Damien grimaced and blew out a long puff of smoke, the grey cloud taking the form of a small fox.

"What's the deal with Lana though? Multiple personalities?" Lance said, reaching into his jeans and pulling out a red and white peppermint in a cellophane wrapper. Popping it out of the plastic and putting it in his mouth, the plastic disappearing curiously.
-
"Probably best if you ask her yourself." Damien remarked. Lana was the only person he couldn't get a read on. He didn't understand her 'gifts'... Or why she had them. All he knew was that she was a cute girl hiding a dangerous secret.
-
"Way to make things hard for me Lordan." Lance said, a smirk on his face, but it turned serious quickly. "The question is, do you know anything about Darius and Belle.,?"
-
"I know that Darius hates me and the Aldons. I'm not surprised that he went after Belle. Turn our greatest threat against us..." Damien sighed and pulled the cigarette from his mouth, tossing it to the side with a small flick. "Push comes to shove... I'll lock her gates."
-
"Salem's mine, regardless of what happens. But you can do that?" Lance questioned. He wasn't entirely surprised, but Damien was full of secrets and surprises. Especially when it came to seals.
-
"Yes. Get rid of them too... But that would be more risky. The difference between opening a gate and seal however... Is incredibly different, and much more dangerous." Damien seems to grow thoughtful for a moment, realizing that Salem had probably advanced himself as well.
-
"What's the difference between a gate and a seal?" Lance asked, drumming his fingers on his thigh. He wanted to know as much info as possible that would benefit him in any way. Salem was gonna regret doing what he did to Belle, and Lance would make sure of it personally,
-
"Gates are stronger and harder to unlock. I know four people who've unlocked a gate. That's including myself. I'm the only person I know who has unlocked three. Unfortunately... Unlocking my first one cost me a foot and two fingers." Damien shrugged. He was a prodigy of the medical field. He could have regrown his limbs at any time... Yet he chose to keep his augments. He hated being more human anyways.
-
"Are they just seals on steroids? And what's it take to unlock them?" Damien could already see the gears turning in Lance's head, he was too curious for his own good.
-
"No. Slightly more complicated. And it takes hundreds of seals and lots of time to earn one. Before you ask... No. I spent years in cryo to earn one and split my very being through millions of timelines." He shakes his head, remembering his younger years where all he wanted was power and control... How it had swallowed him, destroyed his life, and cost him his family.
-
Lance grins, shrugging his shoulders. "Fair enough. I suppose we all have to have our own secrets.. riddle me this though, who else has a Gate/Gates?"
-
"Lucien has two. Belle had one. And Legion had fourteen... Which he didn't actually earn... Rather stole." Damien grimaces and runs his tongue against his sharpened metal teeth, the glistening metal almost vibrating in hate. Seemed Damien and Azrael didn't get along.
-
"If a person with seals kills someone else with seals, their power gets transferred right?" Lance questioned. It occurred to him that he'd never told Damien about what he'd seen when he'd gotten his five seals from Damien.
-
"Not all. I once killed a man and only got about a third of his power. Felt awful of course... Most don't realize but usually the first time you take a life you feel sick... Sometimes the second and so on. It's cause of the transfer." Damien sighs and looks down at his remaining hand, the blood of every life he's taken stop vivid staining his fingers... Despite not actually being there. "You know that your relationship with Belle might never be the same after this... Right?"
-
"What do you mean Lordan?" Lance asked, his voice quiet. He always had a feeling that it would be something like that, but he wasn't entirely sure. It didn't help that he now had someone else telling him.
-
"I don't know what Salem's done to her. But she's half awakened... Beyond that, you are her enemy." Damien pulled off his coat and peeled back some metal grafting above his hip, showing a horrible scar like fire or thousands of razors. "He got to me once... I don't see things the same anymore. I don't know if I'm ever out of the dream... I just have to hope." For once, Lance realized why Damien had slipped so far. Why he always seemed to be lazy... It wasn't just a loss of family or his personality. He still believed he was living in some kind of hallucination... It made him want to give up... Not even try... And that was on top of what had happened in Ubonae...
-
"Jesus Damien.." Lance said, running his hands over his face. "I'll sign another contract if I have to.." He muttered between his hands, the air around them growing colder like an outside force had heard the words.
-
"Why does it seem like everyone around me has their hands one powerful friends... It feels like I'm the only one who's been kicking ass alone. I need to get with Chuck Norris or Abe Lincoln..." Damien remarked, shoving the plating back onto his skin, looking at the Dojo in frustration. "I'll give you credit... You've had a hard life... But you never gave up... Didn't slip..." Damien picked up the bottle Lance had given to him, looking at his greatest sin... Childhood... Adulthood... Now this. With a snap, Damien uncorks the bottle and takes a long drink, such liquid hard for others to take a mere sip of, but Damien found the burning to be exhilarating.

"Zavax isn't my friend. He's a cosmic being who only has humanities interests at heart. To him, me and you are specks of stardust on the cosmic plane. Last time I dealt with him, I all but signed my soul over for a chance at saving my wife." Lance said wryly, grabbing the bottle from Damien and taking half of a swig of what Damien did. Lance was tough, but he didn't have an alcoholic tolerance like Damien. Also, why did Lance have to make a deal to save his wife? He could travel through time, he should've been able to just go back.
-
"So... She died, why?" Damien asked, looking at Lance, his eyes swimming with the onset of drunkenness... But he could keep this up for hours... "I mean... I saw what happened... But... The pieces don't fit."
-
"She died in childbirth.. at least, that's what every record says. But the reaction she had when she died was consistent with poisoning.." Lance says with a sigh. "I don't know why or how, but her blood samples showed that their were traces of dark water rose, and Anzid root. Seperate their harmless but together, they make a slow acting poison. Yet, my son didn't die along with her, so whoever poisoned her had impeccable timing." He says, running his hands through his hair. "That answer the pieces that didn't add up?"
-
"I'm not going to lie... I don't usually give out my condolences and prayers. I think it's all the same... I ask for her safe passage and comfort you... It feels wrong in a way. Dishonorable. Rather, I can say that I understand your pain and wish you the best in overcoming it..." Damien was sick of apologies and sorrow when it came to death. It seemed so cliche and fake to weep over the same thing every time... It made it seem like he didn't care when he dropped flowers next to a grave and moved on... "I always looked at men in a strange way... Thought it was strange women could tolerate us... Then again, how do we tolerate them? Animals have it easy. They act the same despite gender... Humans... No... Male and female is like opposite species..." Damien wrinkled his nose and snatched his bottle back for another swig. He always had been luckier than most... But it felt like false luck... He never knew how he got away with a wife and daughter. "Maybe that's why it's harder for us."
-
"What has me seriously worried.." He pauses, fishing another peppermint out of his pocket and putting it in his mouth. "Is that those plants don't exist when she died."
-
"Time traveling enemies... You either pissed someone off in the past... Or future..." Damien, flicked his eyes up to the sun, the bright haze jetting his eyes... But he didn't turn his gaze away. "You ought to stop pissing around in other dimensions... One of these days, something real strong is going to get sick of your shit."
-
"Yeah... I know. And Zavax isn't willing to let me go back and try again unless I give him something impossible.." He smiled, and said cryptically. "Oddly enough, I live for that day."
