Everybody loves music. Lets get away from these shitposts, politics, and memes for a second to work on a project together. So, I stole this idea from 4chan's music forum, but I want to create a music catalogue of the most essential albums from every genre, the albums that truly define the style of music. I thought this could be a neat community project for #OffTopic to work on, and after, we'll have a music catalogue for everyone to use when they want to listen to something new. This is a great way to find new music, and have general music discussion and debate.
Imaged above, you can see an example catalogue I threw together pretty quickly just to show you what I mean (That's NOT the final rap catalogue, just an example I made!). Obviously, each genre has subgenres, or distinct families of music, and I'm not well versed in genres like Metal and Jazz, so you guys have to help me out with that.
I'm looking for the 5 most distinct subgenres from every genre, and at least 5 of the most essential albums from each subgenre. Everyone has their favorite types of music, so I'm sure this won't be hard to do, so long as everyone contributes to the thread and keeps it alive. This will not work if you don't contribute or help out the thread.
I'm going to make individual posts in this topic with each main genre I think should be included, and I want you guys to comment your suggestions on the respective posts so I can keep everything organized. Suggest some albums (artist and title please), and subgenres. I'll need help from fans of each genre to make a good catalogue, so please communicate with your fellow music fans and discuss/debate which albums and subgenres ought to be there.
TL;DR:
-Community Music Catalogue
-Only the most essential albums. Not your favorites, the ones that define a genre
-Comment your suggestions in the corresponding posts from me below
-Debate with other fans of the same music to get best possible list of albums and subgenres
-Keep thread alive, this will take some time to complete, but I'm confident we can with enough cooperation from everyone
Edit: keep posting, I'm going to take all suggestions after a while and then we'll vote on the best

I really have a different taste in music than some people here.
wort
I sexually Identify as a Sentry Bot. Ever since I was a boy I dreamed of moving around government property dumping sweet rockets and 5mm Minigun rounds on disgusting Red Chinese spies and intruders. People say to me that a person being a Sentry Bot is Impossible and I'm -blam!-ing retarded but I don't care, I'm beautiful. I'm having a plastic surgeon install factory armor, three wheeled leg thingies, a 5mm minigun and a missile launcher on my body. From now on I want you guys to call me "Ironsides" and respect my right to kill people who interfere with security operations and kill needlessly. If you can't accept me you're a sentriphobe and need to check your robot privilege. Thank you for being so understanding.

I like this thread. I'm not very knowledgeable about music, but I appreciate the motivation to get away from politics.

I think "Woodstock: Music from the original soundtrack and more" deserves a spot in classic rock, seeing as it was a historical festival where almost every big name attended.

Well when comes to my taste in music( mostly punk) it's definitely got to be nevermind the bolocs by the sex pistols, Milo goes to college by the descendants and agent orange in general. Though this is all my opinion but hating each other is part of being a punk I guess right?

I don't know what category or genre Deftones would fall under, but it definately deserves some place in here, for it has undoubtably defined a sub genre of music.
