I may joke about how ugly some armor is (seriously Bungievision at least let us also infuse common, uncommon and rares to max Light using higher level Legendaries to get some variety in armor and weapon styles; they can't be uglier than some of the exotics and Legendaries) but the main draw of Destiny for me (other than the tight gun mechanics) is the fact that I can customize my Guardian and personalize them so I can chrome some domes in style, as a recognizable figure on the battlefield, instead of the generic red vs. blue. Especially in recorded game footage, I think it matters to be able to distinguish one player from another by sight, not just by GT to give people that extra pride and satisfaction when they do well, and helps to immerse the player in the Destiny 'verse, to become Legend. Who really wants to become Legend in ugly gear? I'd love to see cosmetic items and clothes for wearing in the Tower and other social spaces, but we will need a lot more Vault, Postmaster and inventory space. This aesthetic feature basically defines Destiny and is special niche in FPS that helps distinguish it from others and keeps bringing players back. For me the fixed, generic stock class soldier avatar of FPS, or teams differentiated by Red vs. Blue is played out: after playing Destiny for so long before Halo 5 came out or BLOPs3 came out that when they did come out, or just didn't keep my interest. Is not even that Halo 4, 5, CoD Ghosts/Advanced Warfare, Titanfall, are bad FPS, but they just didn't hold my interest for long in a marketplace flooded with a glut of FPS. Personalized, customized FPS experience is going to be the new standard and I hate to see Bungievision squandering their early lead on this regard. Now just let us give our characters individual names and backstories, maybe design our own insignias, clan flags and banners (heraldry), private quarters in the Tower where we can chill and socialize, etc. I don't think Bungievision are quite aware of how important it is for people who love the Destiny lore and 'verse to be able to role play their characters within it, even in game types that are just glorified rehashes of classic FPS game types. If you think about it, it's one of the reasons people love to develop a community around MMOs and do cosplay, write fanfic, and do all these other things which immeasurably add value to the game in ways Bungievision probably never imagined. Is not easy for bean counters to put a dollar value on that kind of fan loyalty to a glorified FPS, but it's value is the opposite of zero: it is the little things that count and add up to either enhance the player's experience or detract from it, and I can't imagine it would cost all that much to allow for more customization and personalization for players, and the returns they would get in terms of fan loyalty and continued interest in Destiny (not to mention drumming up interest for the sequel; cheap advertising for Destiny 2 and helps with customer retention) is invaluable. So for Saladin's sake, please please please start catering to player wishes and do more to let us personalize our experiences, to allow those who are more sociable to have places to be social on a social shooter (instead of relying on third party LFG sites), while also having in - game activities for asocial/shy solo players to do things with other players without having to necessarily socialize... Fix the entirely unwieldy, aggravating item management and inventory system. Concentrate on perfecting the user experience and what some would call 'the little things' which add up to huge annoyances that further salt peoples' hashes.

  • Ok, since I 100% agree with this post I'm going to add my insight to it. That was a quality post btw. Anyways here's my take. One of my favorite if not most favorite thing about destiny is the character customization. Shaders and cool gear determine what I grind next. Raid gear? Ew. I'm a 381 and haven't even touched the new raid. The armor is ugly. Although it's miles ahead of the Kings fall gear, it still doesn't compare to others. With that said I will grind trials and iron banner because the gear looks better, even if I'd rather raid instead of crucible. Secondly, I love the idea of sparrow and ship shaders, etc. I think adding individual back stories would take a bit of work for bungie so I don't necessarily expect to see that but I would like to see class specific groups. For example, in the tower in the old area for iron banner where Saladin would be, that space is collecting dust. So I suggest that bungie adds hunter, warlock, and titan cults in that space. This is similar to the vanguard but they can include more gear that is only usable by that kind of character. Like tlaloc or ace of spades. Also throw in some shaders and boom you have a new cool thing to grind for. I think the game as a whole needs more shaders because how hard is it to make up cool color ideas. One solution to this is to let the players make their own shader. What I suggest is to have shader blueprints drop just like runes and siva offerings. Each blueprint can contain either 1 color slot or 2 or 3. And then players can earn colors to apply to the blueprints by doing various things in the game. So let's say I do some patrols and pick up a shader blueprint with 2 color slots. (1 slot is a uncommon, 2 is rare, 3 is legendary). From there I now have to aquire 2 colors. So I grind some strikes and get a couple colors. Then I can apply them and create my own shader. Now to prevent these shaders from making the pre-made ones obsolete, when a person uses the colors they are gone. And when you dismantle the shaders you only get one color back. So 2 and 3 slot shaders only return 1 of the colors at random and a 1 shot shader doesn't offer a return. To even further this feature, some of the colors you find can even have a different look to them. Some iron banner shaders are shiny while others have patterns like thunderdevil, the old guard, and variks shaders. I really think this would be a huge jump for customization. To further customization, why don't all the factions let us choose from different gear. What I mean is that the new monarchy gear looks different than the dead orbit gear, and same with fwc. Why don't they give us the option of 3 helmets, arms, etc. This will eliminate getting armor I won't wear even if it has a good perk or two because it looks bad. Bungie likes to use recycled gear so this should be perfect for them. Destiny is a step ahead all fps because of their customization but they have room for so much more.
