Attention Eris-Raisins Keepers... WE. WERE. RIGHT!!

"Don't save the Raisins." They say. "I deleted them right away." They said. "I can't believe you held onto those stupid things for a WHOLE YEAR." They told us. WELL, LOOK WHO WAS RIGHT?! WE WERE! #SaveTheRaisins.

  • Just to make things clear to everyone, the Tiny Box of Raisins that Eris gave out last year was the only item in the entirety of Destiny to not be used in any way, shape or form. Until now, they were the ONLY COMPLETELY USELESS item. Discarding them gave nothing in return. They provided no special effect, they couldn't be used to upgrade anything, and the couldn't be traded for anything or used as currency. Every single item in this game had at least one way to use them in some fashion, the exceptions being Crumpled Masks and Rotten Candy. However, those Crumpled Masks and Rotten Candy were expired versions of items that actually had a use. And no "expiration" happened to the Tiny Box of Raisins. Didn't you think it was odd that Bungie made a COMPLETELY USELESS ITEM? Based on everything else in the game, this makes absolutely no sense for them to do. Why make a useless item? Yeah sure, other game developers have done it before, anyone else remember Dark Souls' "Pendant"? But that's just not Bungie's style with Destiny. Everything has a purpose, everything has a use. So for this box of Raisins to be specifically added into the game in a way that is super obvious just to throw people off, just makes no sense. So we the players were left with a choice, take the Raisins at face value alone like a bad joke about real-life Halloween and get rid of them; OR be patient. Patience is a virtue after all. And now it seems the most patient and by correlation "virtuous" Guardians amongst us have been given a small reward of Grimoire score for keeping them until they "ascended". But my original point still holds, even these new "Ascendant Raisins" in all their glowing glory, HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO USE as a consumable item. So we stay patient. If absolutely NOTHING happens in a way where we actually get to put our shiny new Raisins to use, then we Guardians who saved them deserve every bit of salt that the other "less patient" Guardians give us. But, if they end up having a SINGLE way to make use of them before 2016's Festival of the Lost is over, then we Raisin lovers will always stand above you salt-throwers, showing off our shiny trinkets that you (probably) won't ever be able to get. Bungie does like there to be things that some players will never possibly get, like the CoD: AW shader, or "The Old Guard" shader from Year 1, or the rewards from Year 2 Moments of Triumph. Those are rewards that will NEVER be given out again, letting the rare few who "earned" them always have something to show off to the newer generations, gear that sets us apart from everyone else forever, and that's EXACTLY what these new Ascendant Raisins are going to do.
