I have this cool throwing knife on my Gunslinger which is setup with knife juggler. Because it's fun sticking an enemy in the face with a knife only to have it recharge so I can do it again.
I picked up the "Old Wolf, New Tricks" quest for this week's Festival of the Lost, and was excited that I would be able to move through it pretty quickly while enjoying some time using the good 'ol throwing knife to get my solar kills.
Turns out, solar throwing knives don't count toward solar kills. Maybe it's always been like this, I'm not sure, I don't use Gunslinger too often. But it seems ridiculous that when I need to get solar kills for a quest, bounty, or anything else, I can't use one of the best and most fun weapons that sub-class uses.
After running around happily throwing knives in the faces of anything standing in my way for 15 minutes, my counter for the quest was at 2 kills from throwing a grenade after missing the critical and not getting the recharge. I almost threw my controller through the wall.
Bungie, Deej, or f*ckin' anyone, please explain the logic behind solar throwing knives not counting as solar kills.
Are you trying to be assholes?
Do you think it's too big of an advantage for Hunters when getting solar kills?
If so, does it now seem fair that Gunslingers can only use their super and grenades to get those kills now, not only slowing the pace to that of other classes, but now taking the longest to get solar kills?
I play other classes, but my Hunter is my main character and the one I enjoy playing the most, at least until I noticed this steaming pile of horseshit.
Why have a throwing knife if it is regularly useless for completing anything?

A Hunter recruit is at a target range trying to learn how to use a throwing knife. He tosses one and it falls to the ground. [Ace is having difficulty with throwing knives] Ace Levy: Sir, I don't understand. Who needs a knife in a nuke fight anyway? All you gotta do is push a button, sir. Career Sergeant Hunter Zim: Cease fire. Put your hand on that wall trooper. PUT YOUR HAND ON THAT WALL! [Zim throws a incinerated knife and hits Ace's hand pinning it to the wall then burning it . Career Sergeant Hunter Zim: The enemy can not push a button... if you burn his hand. Medic!

Gunslinger class needs to be removed entirely. I wish my super had massive aim assist and could kill you across the map. A throwing knife shouldn't penetrate my body armor. Let alone my helmet.
-
If it said solar ability kills you could use throwing knifes
-
I think if you put on incendiary blade it counts.
-
THROWING KNIVES ARE NOT ELEMENTAL. They never have been, and never will be. The only way to give them solar damage is to equip the perk "Incendiary Blade" which sets your knife on fire, allowing it to do burn damage. The other two perks are kinetic damage.
-
They need to change it. Solar Ability kills on Gunslinger is pulling teeth. The Throwing Knife doesn't count, yet Blink Strike (Bladedancer), and Smoke Bomb (Nightstalker) count as their respective elements. They need to change it to where the Burning Knife counts. Giving an Advantage is BS. Sunsingers can do Grenades & Horseshoes Bounty is less than 5 minutes. Titans can do Arc Ability Kills via Shoulder Tackle. Gunslinger Hunters need a bone... Tripmines suck, Throwing Knives suck, Ability Mods (Scavenger, Keyhole, Gunslinger's Trance) suck compared to Bladedancer & Nightstalker Ability Mods.
-
Switch from Juggler to Incendiary Blade. That gives you Solar damage.
-
For a company that made such a great game they are complete idiots
-
I'm just gonna bump this because even though I main a warlock this has to suuuuuuuuck.
-
I completed it on my hunter, its pretty bad
-
Kind of like how knife juggler doesn't work on the vex. Even though you can get precision kills on them with the throwing knife, it doesn't reset the cooldown. I guess it prefers headshots on biological beings

Edited by Boss: 10/27/2016 2:52:56 AMThis is why I don't pick up solar kill bounties. *gasp* WAIT! Solar Sun Sunsinger Warlock Annoying BladeDancer Hunter Gunslinger Solar ILLUMINATI CONFIRMED
-
I had the same issue, however, if you run incendiary blade and they die from the burn instead of the impact, it counts for solar ability kills. The problem is getting the enemies to the point of not dying from impact. Good luck guardian.
-
I've always wondered why a class called Gunslinger has knife perks and a class called Bladedancer has gun perks.
-
Edited by Lacuna: 10/27/2016 6:00:08 PMThrowing knives don't actually do solar damage. They are kinetic. Just like all the hunter melees, BS isn't arc and Smoke isn't void. EDIT: Turns out I was mistaken about BS and Smoke.

Welcome to the world of Defender Titan where a super kill is IMPOSSIBLE. With Gunslinger, use Incendiary, Fr0stEez and Monte Carlo and try to max Discipline (since the mask messes stats up). If I hadn't done that I'd have thrown my controller at the screen in frustration.

Gets thorn quest. On Titan. Cry.
-
Use incendiary knives. If they burn out they will count

Work with incendiary blade..or at least it used to.. But certain bounties or quest it didn't work.. (example. Knife exploding Thrall ) . Learn how to use the class before complaining...
-
Pretty sure it works with incendiary blade.
-
I was gonna make a post about this too. I went around thrwoing knives into thrall skulls for almost an hour before I realized that throwing knives weren't counting for solar kills. Granted I probably should have stopped way before an hour passed but when you're stringing headshot after headshot with throwing knives you sorta lose touch with any and all reasoning in your brain.

this is known. hunter melees never had elemental damage.. dont know why, but yea
-
That escalated quickly
-
Play the "we've woken the hive" mission using Golden Gun with keyhole and combustion. That's what I did and I knocked it out pretty quickly.
