Completely agree with you, I hate the loot system most of all since hard mode wotm came out, I've had nothing but sidearms from vosik(excluding normal legs and fusion)and I've had 14 including the challenge chest. spliced chest, rocket launcher and 2 machine guns from siege engine, and 2 hand cannons and 3 pulse rifles form aksis. And the only exotic armor I want (as I have nearly every piece for Titan) are the dunemarchers, I've used about 170 tocs in total which gave me about 11 engrams total and 5 of them were legs, but they decrypted into 2 preguine greaves and 3 mk.44 stand asides.
