http://www.slate.com/blogs/moneybox/2016/11/04/donald_trump_s_plan_to_privatize_america_s_roads_and_bridges.html
Under Trump's plan—at least as it's written (more on that in a minute)—the federal government would offer tax credits to private investors interested in funding large infrastructure projects, who would put down some of their own money up front, then borrow the rest on the private bond markets. They would eventually earn their profits on the back end from usage fees, such as highway and bridge tolls (if they built a highway or bridge) or higher water rates (if they fixed up some water mains). So instead of paying for their new roads at tax time, Americans would pay for them during their daily commute. And of course, all these private developers would earn a nice return at the end of the day.
Just what my commute needs. Tolls, subject to price increases on a whim, designed to pay for the road, and make some asshole a profit, rather than a portion of my taxes just paying for it at cost.
Remember, unless you walk, you don't get to opt out of this. You could have to pay someone just to leave your house.
Trump has one thing in mind and one thing only. Help his bottom line.
Enjoy being scammed.

It's not like the other option is particularly appealing either.
-
This sounds like a good idea.

"Trump wants to fix Americas problems" Oh my god the -blam!-ing devil kill him!!!

Edited by tjustie: 11/5/2016 12:18:52 PMThis is what I don't get when libertarians sarcastically make comments like "But who would build the roads?!" Does literally anyone want to have tolls on every corner, subject to price changes on a whim and drastically inconveniencing travel? And depending on how much and where you drive, it could end up being absurdly expensive. Maybe in the hypothetical libertarian utopia it wouldn't work like that though, so if someone could explain to me how, that would be cool.
Trump wants to privatize our infrastructure

Under Trump's plan—at least as it's written (more on that in a minute)—the federal government would offer tax credits to private investors interested in funding large infrastructure projects, who would put down some of their own money up front, then borrow the rest on the private bond markets.
That doesn't sound like privatization to me...
-
That sounds decidedly like paranoia and rumor.
-
Hillary has the EXACT same plans for infrastructure - a MASSIVE increase in spending.
-
What's wrong with this? Honestly? Gov has people do infrastructure so it only lasts so many years so they can go back and keep doing it again As a reason to keep raising taxes. It's a huge scam. It would be much better off in the private sector
-
The private industry kicks the shit out of government everywhere. They can do a better job faster.
-
You make a good point and I think we can all agree that roads and infrastructure is incredibly important. I for one am open to more privatized infrastructures for two main reasons.... #1 Any privatized industry works within a free market economy which promotes competition and leads to better products IE: (roads, bridges, and so on), where as federal control operations tend be low quality, stagnant and consistently under perform.....hence the current state of infrastructure. #2 Taxes meant for infrastructure currently are routinely being siphoned to other projects and special interest groups through crony-capitalism. At least when I pay a toll, I have a better idea of where the money is going.

Im just gonna drop this right here: http://www.washingtonsblog.com/2011/07/the-founding-fathers-tried-to-warn-us-about-the-threat-from-a-two-party-system.html Anyone who states "party x is dumb/retarded/stupid/wrong/etc" is part of what is wrong with america today. That mentality only fuels increased divisions along ideological lines. We already experienced one instance of people becoming militant in their ideologies in this country and are now starting to head down the same road. Please learn to be more respectful and tolerant of each other. Those who do not learn from the past are doomed to repeat it.
-
"This sounds like a good idea" ~literally nobody, ever
-
But isn't privatisation what all the edgy capitalist supremacists of B.net want?
-
Hey our government sucks at building roads hard, we have 3rd world infulstructer and if the government stops paying for it taxes will go down so in the end it will just be better.
-
Politics is a scam and if yiu dont believe that dont be surprised when trump gets in as per the elites plan.

You're a Bernie supporter LOL.
-
but my infrastructures are private
-
Still a better option than war with Russia.
-
>slate.com kek nice source, why not just read the plan itself?
-
Watch Musk buy all the roads and bridges then give free passes to self driving cars
-
Remember when the government screws up you pay for it and no one gets in trouble. Down here in Louisiana the roads are garbage. So they have a big project to "fix" them. They will employ the same workers who are bad at their jobs to fix their work. Private companies however would face penalties and disciplinary actions and may even be fired. So the private company has an interest in doing a good job. The government couldn't give a shit.

enjoy being -blam!-ed in the ass america, europoor we are together
-
Another reason I haven't convinced myself to vote yet

Interestingly enough, we're being scammed much worse here in NY. We pay for our infrastructure through taxes and tolls, despite the fact that we were told we'd stop paying tolls once a lot of the highways were paid for. That was over twenty years ago. I'm no Trump supporter but at least with this plan, I wouldn't be paying twice.
