Sasha laughs, but stops when she looks at your face. "I can't tell if you're joking."
-
"I'm not."
-
Sasha seems terribly confused. "Runts aren't equal, outsider. They're the bottom."
-
"That sounds horribly racist."
-
"Racist? We're still the same race. Her social status is just at the bottom."
-
"That doesn't sound humane. Hold on, if you view them as worthless, why keep them around?"
-
She shrugs. "The code says so and we do find things for that runt to do. Mostly entertainment."
-
"Stuff like what?"
-
"Y'know, roles in plays no one else wants, being the prey when kids play Hunt, sharpening claws, cleaning, and other stuff."
-
"Oh. Good. Thought you made them do horrible shit or something."
-
Sasha gets nervous. "Y-Yeah, nothing too bad."
-
"You're lying to me. I can tell. Not to mention the scars and bruises and cuts all over Artemis. Don't beat around the bush. Just tell me."
-
Sasha gets pushed away by the grey wolf. "You've overstayed your welcome, outsider. I suggest you leave."
-
"Why'd you push her? Ain't like it was very hard to guess about what those scars were all about, y'know? I knew you were lying to me from the start. My question is, why? What's the point? I've seen shit you wouldn't even believe, hell, I've done shit you wouldn't believe. Nothing's gonna make me angry. Nothing's gonna surprise me. I'm not a fûcking amateur. I've done this shit before."
-
The wolf laughs before snarling. "I said leave, tough guy."
-
"Listen, bud. If you plan on making me move from here by force, you won't have a fun time. Just tell me."
-
"Sasha we're done here." They both starts to go back into the cave. Sasha seems a little reluctant as she looks back.
-
"I'm gonna figure out what's going on here." I walk off, pissed.
-
On your way back ,you come across a boy around Artemis' age with a dark blue tail and ears. He's just wearing some ragged shorts which allows you to see his perfectly fit body. You caught him in what seems to be a training exercise as he's balancing on one foot on a small rock in the middle of a river.
-
I stop dead in my tracks, and look over at the boy. What the hell was he doing here? Unless... Was he like Artemis? Could he not turn into a wolf? Only one way to find out. "Hey, kid! Who are you?"
-
The boy stays perfectly balanced on the rock and speaks calmly. "I am Aethos. What is your name, outsider?"
-
"Grant. Ranger Grant. Why're you out here all alone, kid? Did the others back at the camp send you out like they did Artemis?"
-
The boy shakes his head at first, but seems to get interested upon hearing Artemis' name. "No, I just come out to train. Do you know..." He looks around to make sure no clan members are nearby. "...Artemis?"
-
"Yeah, I do know her. I know how they're fûcking torturing her in that goddamn cave because she was late. All because of me. But no, they won't listen, so now next time I see her she probably won't just have a shit-ton of cuts and bruises, now she's gonna be missing HER GODDAMN FINGERS! Or at least that's my fûcking speculation." I clear my throat. I get a little pissed off. "Sorry about that... I just get a little angry when I know someone's hurting a kid and getting away with it. But yes, I do know Artemis."
-
Aethos gets an upset expression. "She was late again? I swear Artemis wants to be punished sometimes. Great, now I'm going to be standing around wishing I could do something to stop the punishment for the rest of the day."
