Peace Somewhere:
Ko Rudo Mountains
A memory was being projected onto the pale snow. Michael's eyes were squinted in concentration, barely managing to maintain the flow of photons as he morphed light into his image. The picture was somewhat blurry, giving it an almost antique glow to it. In it two boys, almost teenagers, were sitting in a rowboat, laughing their asses off as they tried their luck at fishing. One of them was his friend, Jim, who became a monster on the outside to defend those he loved. The other he barely recognized as himself, who became a monster on the inside to protect himself from those he loved. Drake had always been a decent fisherman, but he was so young then, so innocent, that Jim couldn't help but laugh at his feeble efforts, as did the Michael in the picture. Slowly, the image began to pan out, with a neon cityscape blazing in the autumnal background. With a pang, Drake recognized the planet he had spent his childhood on, and where he and Jim had finally escaped from, to go on the adventure of a lifetime.
It was hard to believe that he was gone. No, it was impossible. Even as a Basilisk soldier, Jim had been full of laughter and warmth, and a confidence that inspired the best in those around him. His sheer dedication had mutated his body into an abomination, yet still he always wanted the best for those around him. In the end, he had given his one chance of survival to Drake, so that he could have an opportunity to live.
Above him, the Arrowhead began to coalesce in the sky as Sawyer began to descend, landing a hundred meters away from Drake's seat. With one last nostalgic look at the picture, Drake waved his hands, erasing the picture into mist.
