Within the instant of touching the marble the street suddenly fill with strange shadow like figures that even a second ago were not there.
you, you don't look like the man we were chasing. Who are you?
The phantom loudly demands.

Rook jumps back. "First off, why the hell do you need to do that? Why, just why? Also, I'm not the dude you were chasing, I just saw the guy running, he dropped something, and it looked cool, also I'm pretty drunk, so, yeah."

our apologies for our tone The closest one says in a less forceful manner The master wishes to reclaim that for the sake of her Lord. May we ask that you return it?

"Yeah, you guys can have it back, just, please none of that creppy stuff." Rook hands the marble back

Upon letting go they vanish leaving the marble sitting vacant in the snow. A thin layer of ashes around it. "My apologies for them. They have a tendency to overreact in my stead" Behind Rook is a woman with a very pale complexion and bright yellow eyes. A strange hooked scythe is seen on her back.

"God damnit. Paranormal activity messes with the computers in my helmet. Now I can't see, hang on." The helmet begins to recalibrate. "Ok, I can't see, but I must ask, what is that marble. Cause that ain't no marble."

"An artifact that let's one come in contact with those in the limbo between life and death. Many have moved on to the afterlife but some chose to stay."
-
"That's pretty neat. It's creepy that dead people choose to stay instead of going to the afterlife."
-
" I am tasked with calming them so they can move on though some choose to stay, devoting themselves to aiding me. Once they are free to move on it is entirely their choice if or when they desire to. My pardon, I am Ash. The calming voice for the dead" It is unsure whether it is her voice or perhaps her demeanor but something about the woman known as Ash instills a certain calmness one would expect to feel with the acceptance of a new understanding or perhaps a fate one finally knew would come.

Rook continues to fix his helmet. "Nice to meet you Ash, my name is Rook. I used to be part of the armed forces in my country. Ran away and came here." A blue light shines from Rook's helmet. "Finally, now I can see."
-
"Ah a soldier. I've met a few in my time. Some quite gentlemanly and kind. A strange thing war is"
-
"Yep, don't why we can't have peace anywhere. No need for senseless loses of life because you can't settle things peacefully." Rook shakes his head in disbelief as he says the last sentence.

"It has only led to more souls needing comfort. My job is, as you would probably say gloomy but I enjoy it all the same."
-
"Never thought there would be such thing as an afterlife. Always thought that once your dead, it's just nothing. Just a blank space of nothing."

"As I didn't know that this place existed until someone took the black sphere to this place drawing me here. Yet to my surprise here I am. I've heard stories from the dead about the world about the living but I haven't visited enough to know this world too well."
