"Birds are unintelligent animals, and should be treated as such. If someone wants some fried bird, by all means they should just kill the nearest bird. However, this creature demonstrated slight intelligence, and I treated him as an intelligent species. That means he is subject to the law. If you would like to make the argument that he is an unintelligent animal, then why is it such a crime to be killing him? If he is an intelligent animal, then he clearly broke the law."
