Why I Love Destiny (Thoughts From A Flat Earth Theorist Who Plays)

So I just finished up the semester and signed into Destiny first thing. The Dawning is amazing! Throughout the Tower such a captivatingly surreal yet festive vibe fills the air. It feels like what Christmas might become thousands of years from now. As someone who as played since year one, I have to admit that combined with SRL, The Dawning is one of Bungie's finest achievements. Ever-verse was a life saver: after spending $30 on silver I felt so boss as I proudly strutted around the tower in my sexy new Dawning armor. I'm really glad pay to play is there for those of us who can't play as much as we would like... But as I said, the best thing about The Dawning is the vibe and atmosphere it captures. It makes the impossible seem real in a poignantly real way. I like to look at things outside the box. I think Bungie does too (note the emblem pictured above). As a Flat Earth Theorist a find so many in game aspects reminding me of the deeper ways in which my understanding of Flat Earth facts also have a deeper more meaningful purpose. The Earth is Flat, and realizing that fact requires the same kind of imagination that is needed to build a game like Destiny. Science is a religion of facts that only imagination can break: when we are told something is true so repetitively we start to believe it. Destiny shows us to believe that the impossible could in fact be possible. I argue that the moments in which one comprehends Flat Earth Facts is the same as when a sense of wonder is expressed by in game events like the Dawning. The feeling challenges us to think about what we thought we knew. For example, the first time I learned that the sun, moon, planets, and stars are actually smaller and much closer to the Flat Earth's surface, I felt like a light had turned on inside my head. It just made sense. It sparked a feeling of wonder as I realized that perspective made multiple physical realities possible, but that one was more true than the other. If the sun were massively large and gravity existed, earth would have been consumed by the sun's gravitation long ago. The Flat Earth model of a smaller yet nearby sun makes more sense and fits everything else we can observe around us on a daily basis. Anyways, I'm sorry if it seems like I am rambling. But as someone who's imagination is hugely inspired by Destiny, the game often makes see connections between what I think and the content of Destiny. I have always felt that Bungie possesses a level of originality and genius that far surpasses any other studio. Bungie, you make me think. Keep up the good work with Destiny...
