Anne drew her own pistol off her hip, and took aim at shadow with the black .44 magnum.

"Try me." Shadow tilts her head, then shifts her grip on the new blade.

Shadow takes advantage of her speed and vanishes. A single rustle of grass in the quiet night from behind is Anne's only warning.
