Not even Rage could keep Vernon alive after his entire left side's been cut to pieces. While he was being cut, he attempted to ignite all of Kent's wounds, and stop him for a moment. But with Kent going off the wall, it wouldn't do anything.
When he had a chance to retaliate with anything physical, the chainsaw was already down to his lung. So, Vernon simply sat there, and accepted it. At least he could do one thing afterwards. There were no screams, and there was no desperate attempt at salvation.
Once Kent had stopped cutting, the flames died away from Vernon, and the ash that made up the Kiln had begun to fall. Vernon'a eyes had glazed over. He was gone. But a bright light suddenly erupted from his body, blinding Kent. Then Kent could feel himself be tossed against the collapsing Kiln with ease. Once some of Kent's vision returned, he could see a male figure seemingly composed of pure light. It strode over to Rhys' body, which had somehow managed to stay in tact all this time. And then it kneeled, and placed its hand over Rhys' chest. The same light began to radiate from Rhys, but soon died away. The figure then walked back to Vernon's corpse, and lied down inside of it; and he promptly disappeared without a trace.
Rhys then took a sudden breath, sputtering and gasping for air. He sat up within an instant, as if awaking from a nightmare.
Nah, I can't get away from something fatal like that. I'll only pull major Deus Ex Machina stuff if someone tried to instantly kill me towards the beginning of a fight. Or of course, in something like a tournament.
Good fight, though. If I had stuck with Rage instead of going with Honor, I think I would've fared better.
