Bungie removed elemental primaries for game purposes to make other weapons more viable, but imagine what our characters and the Vanguard think about this.
Cayde 6: "Hey remember those awesome primaries that dealt elemental damage and help our guardians kill shielded enemies? Why did we stop using those?"
Ikora: "I don't say this that often, but you have a point Cayde, why did we stop using those? They were very helpful in our fight against the darkness.
I know! Since we can create many copies of the Zhalo Supercell and that has Arc properties. Why don't we take the blueprint for Zhalo's arc properties and put it in other primaries to help our guardians fight the darkness!"
Zavala: "Excellent thinking Ikora! And we also make various other vanguard weapons with other elements, if we can figure out how Zhalo has elemental properties as a primary, we can take the other elemental mechanisms and put them into all primaries we sell!
This is an amazing moment for the Vanguard, we shall soon be able to create stronger weapons for our Guardians! Ikora, get your warlocks to start studying the Zhalo and reverse engineering. Cayde, summon some guardians to bring us their old elemental primaries so we can see how they work."
Deej: "Cancel those orders Zavala, we here at Bungie won't allow players to use elemental primaries anymore."
Zavala: "What!? Why? It will help in our fight against the darkness!"
Deej: "Sorry, they make our game too easy, we'll only bring them back when we desperately need to get players excited again. Until then!
-Deej"

I never understood why people wanted Elemental Primaries removed. You could only get them through end-game activities and they belonged to them. They made the game easier if you could defeat the game's most difficult tasks i.e the Raids and Level 35 PoE. These Primaries were very suitable end-game rewards. If the Kings Fall Primary Weapons had Elements. People would have used them more often than not.

Why does everyone keep screwing up the definition of lore?
-
Don't try to reconcile gun mechanics with lore. Why can I get as many copies of Thorn or Touch of Malice as I want? How can it be possible to have a chance of getting a larger magazine on reload? Why does No Time to Explain only refund precision shots?
-
They should just make all legendary primaries elemental
-
The removal of elemental primaries was fat Luke Smiths way of trying to get everyone to drop their old stuff and use all the retarded TTK weapons
-
Bungie doesn't care about lore.
-
I bet bungie bring them back for destiny 2, they'll need the incentive to sell the game.
-
Agreed
-
No one complained about them. The elemental primaries were what made this game FUN. You had something to work towards. You could show off your sick gear, telling everyone that you completed the hardest challenge in this game. Now, weapons are bland and sound/look all the same. Plus, they only affected PvE, which we all know stays relevant for 1-1.5 months anyways.
-
Deej just flies in kills everyone with pre nerf firebolts and runs away carrying all the elemental primaries
-
What they should do is make some consumable that only drops from raid, nightfall, trials, IB, and maybe heroic strikes that can give primaries whatever element you wanna give them.
-
The elemental primaries are what made the raids worth doing, if the last 2 raids had elemental primaries we would have variety. And I think I would use a fire genesis chain over a fatebringer (sometimes)
-
They discontinued the making of elemental primaries in year 2 and 3 as they reigned supreme in year 1 and easily overpowered most major's in PvE and had the power to anihilate crowds of enemies in a few rounds of the mag. For instance, the arc explosion of the firefly from the Fatebringer would kill minor enemy's and effect others (like major enemies) greatly, The Fang of Ir Yut would be extremely effective on void burn activitys and would be able to kill greater enemies at range very quickly, Vex Mythoclast had extremly high recoil but destroyed opponents in PvP in a heart beat, and Atheon's Epilogue was great in both PvP and PvE
-
Honestly the removal of them didn't really make things much harder just made it extremely dull. Did people use fatebringer because it was arc and lowered arc shields better? NO They used it because every time you got a headshot you got the reward of seeing a crazy blue electricity explosion!
-
Well the maker of Thunderlord made both Firelord, and Voidlord so why couldn't the gun smith look at those weapon properties and create a kind of telems to use on weapons of our choice. (Whether they're permanent for a greater weapon diversity. or Temporary, up to several hours.) Doesn't make much sense, and neither did the reasons Luke smith said about it making the game too easy. Frankly, with all the modifiers that are going on, such as match game and what not, it wouldn't be such a bad thing to introduce Elemental primaries once more. And those people that said no because players wouldn't un-equip Fate bringer or Vision of Confluence are the reason. Wrong, it wasn't necessarily the elemental portion of the weapon (Simply a bonus) But the perks associated with the weapon that made them desirable for people. So I say yes, bring elementals back, whether through some VOG time/space loophole or something as simple as infuse-able telems.

I've found the 'Ironclad' modifier to be mildly annoying this week. There are a few strikes in which nearly everything has a shield. If you're not using Explosive Rounds on your primary, low-tier mobs become tedious. I shouldn't feel compelled to use anything other than my primary when dealing with shanks. Tl;Dr: The inclusion of the 'Ironclad' modifier warrants the return of elemental primary weapons.
-
I was just saying a few days ago that Abbadon and Nova Mortis are ok but I REALLY wish they'd have done solar and void Zhalos instead. We'd still get elemental primaries, but have to use an exotic slot. And only in auto rifle form. And I guess either remove or change the "chain lightning" effect on the other two. I think I'm gonna grab some of my old raid primaries and go load up a legacy strike playlist.
Deej: "Cancel those orders Zavala, we here at Bungie won't allow players to use elemental primaries anymore."
I can imagine him saying this exactly. Just the cringey voice he uses on stream and videos. No offense Deej, I understand your position.

Why are you involving deej? He has no control over anything. He is the spokesman basically. You ever hear the saying dont shoot the messenger? Now go fuhk yourself!

-
Still? Maybe get over it, they're fairly unneccessary.
-
Two things to point out; 1, they were not removed, they were discontinued. 2, We just got one in the last raid, Outbreak Prime. OK, not technically one of the 4 elements, but it does the same dam thing.
-
I loved using elemental primaries, I never unequipped my fatebringer in pve. But I have to say that I enjoy having no primaries with burns. It allows for me to use a much wider range of primaries without feeling like I'm handicapping myself. Of course this leads to my vault space being non existent but I have fun switching my load out around each strike. I do think that more exotic primaries should have burns though, because right now most exotics aren't very useful
-
....but the Matador comes in elements
-
Kind've hoping since Smith is focused on Destiny 2, we will get the elemental primaries back from the old raids... Since he took them away from us and all...
