Polygon recently published a breakdown of all the games we got for free in 2016

Was just wondering what your thoughts on this year's lineup was?
In terms of the games that stood out for me, I really liked:
- Grim Fandango
- Broforce
- I am Alive (played back on PS3)
- Zombi
- Gone Home
- Furi (have only demoed)
- Saints Row GOoH
- Resident Evil
- Everybody's Gone to the Rapture
- Stories: The Path of Destinies
That being said, after reviewing Microsoft' games with gold lineup...well Sony was basically blown out of the water. To be fair, Microsoft has 1 less system to worry about, and has made their games backwards compatible.

Going forward, it would be great if we could get some old classics and AAA games as well as the quality indies. Don't bother dropping the older indies that no one wants just to inflate the value...save up the money for the next month. It would also be useful to focus funds on the current generation, rather than the old gen and handheld. Providing a single PS3 game and a single PS Vita game (or cross compatible games) is more than enough.
TBH, I am surprised that we still haven't gotten Killzone Shadowfall.
Edit: Just wondering, if PS+ wasn't required to play online games, would you still subscribe to the service? Same goes for any Xboners who are subbed to games with gold.
Personally, I think I would keep my subscription as I have played many of the games on offer, and regularly take advantage of the additional discounts when ps store has a sale.
-
Is ps+ really required for online play? Subscription recently ran out and I've been able to play dark souls online. Haven't tried any games that are solely online.
-
Now let's see Xbox Gold Games. I just got Sleeping Dogs last month for "free".
-
Stories was probably one of the best games I've played thus year.

Edited by Unforgiven: 1/5/2017 5:29:10 PMThe year before Last year (2015)we got Tomb Raider, Bioshock Infinite, Metro, Borderlands 2 for free on PS3. And Outlast on PS4. This year PSN wasn't as good. But then again if people are buying games, why give them away for free. Thats how business works. Maybe thats why Microsoft is doing poorly in sales so they have to make up for it by Xbox Gold subscriptions.
-
Furi had to have been the best. The rush it gives man...
-
I've been a plus subscriber since when it was available on the ps3. The added discounts is what really made it worth while. The game hands outs were a nice touch as well. The games were a hit or miss. Not everyone will like them, but just because i don't doesn't mean you wont, and vice versa. The whole plus vs gwg comparisons are utterly pointless since its all subjective. What determines who had a better month? The price of the offerings? Quantity of games handed out? Or quality? Also surprised by how many people expect a newly released title to be available the following month over the "indie trash" lol. In my opinion plus and gwg are made for the indie scene rather than the aaa titles that everyone seems to expect every single month.

The only 3 good ones were The Walking Dead, Rocket League, and King's Quest
-
The games aren't free.

Edited by DeusFever: 1/4/2017 6:13:16 PMI know a lot of gamers want free AAA titles and I hope we see some in 2017. For me, however, the real value of PS Plus are the great little games I would never have bought. In fact, I don't have the time to play all the games I've downloaded form PS Plus over the last 2 years. Gone Home is the best example of this for me. It's just a gem that I would never, never have bought. Saints Row: Gat out of Hell is another solid little title that I would have overlooked if it had not been free. Zombi is actually a legit AAA game that was overlooked because it was originally tied to the WiiU. I would rather have these types of games show up every month than Killzone Shadowfail. This year is also starting off great with a remastered classic and highly lauded survival/activist game. My biggest problem with PS Plus is buying games that end up free later. That happened with Journey, Transformers Devastation, and a couple of other heartbreaking purchases. This usually happens because game sales are the best benefit of PS Plus. That's right, PS Plus membership gives you extra discounts on games that show up in weekly deals and flash sales. This is how I spend most of my gaming dollars, and I picked up the aforementioned Killzone Showfail last spring for $5 from PSN.

Here's a list of them all. A lot of PS1 games, but no PS2 games. Sony plz https://www.reddit.com/r/PlayStationPlus/wiki/list/fullna/

"Free"
-
quick question, On PlayStation do you need to keep having a PS+ membership in order to play the free games?

Edited by Oxide: 1/4/2017 11:19:53 AMYou said you liked zombi I must now burn down this post.
-
Edited by NynjaHyppy: 1/4/2017 2:34:32 PMI just want a flippin reboot of Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning!!! Life will be good then. Edit: or make it backwards compatible for the bone
-
Rocket league
it was 2015 but still the best choice I made
-
I really think they should put some PS2 games and older exclusives for free. It'd be good publicity and great for PS+ subscribers.
-
Broforce
-
killzone shadows fall would make sense, because there is like 4 people who still play they literally only give you garbage on playstation
-
Dunno... I downloaded a few of the games this year but it was kinda meh across the board to be honest. I guess the dollar value is there? But the selection is kinda meh. Xbox wins this battle.

Edited by XxnatonxX: 1/3/2017 8:43:44 PMThey were definitely better 2014/early 2015: -Outlast -Injustice -Infamous first light -Rogue Legacy -Supermeat boy And I'm not sure why but for the first 2 years after PS4's release, PS3 got some really great games like Deadspace 3, payday 2, Borderlands 2, etc, and now we get absolute garbage even on there.

Edited by Seraph: 1/3/2017 8:16:16 PMIn order to get the most out of your PS+ subscription you really should own a PS4, a PS3 and a PS Vita ( and maybe a PS VR since the occasional VR game pops up ). Since most Playstation users don't own all of the above most of them probably feel that they aren't getting their money's worth for their PS+ subscription. Heck, I own all 3 Playstation consoles and I can't remember the last time I turned my PS3 or my PSVita on ( let alone downloaded a PS+ game for either ). Since the PS4 can't play PS3 games, It's about time that Sony dropped PS3 games from the monthly PS+ line up and used the funds that would have gone to PS+ PS3 games to persuade developers to add better PS4 games to the monthly PS+ games line up. It's been 10 years, the PS3 had a good run, it's now time to let it die.
-
This year was disappointing to say the least. The only ones I bothered with were: Staying Alive and Resident Evil.
-
Hoping for better ones in the future.
-
It was ok. Seemed like they tried to release a bunch of different kinds of games for everyone to try and its good they didn't do many games of similar nature. Just real glad they did Journey loved it on ps3 and now it looks a lot better on ps4.
