What does your Faction mean to you?
Hello and welcome Guardians! for those who still recognize my name it's been a while, for everyone else, HELLO! i'm AnonPig, i do the lore things.
But today I'm here to ask you that very simple question, there are three Factions in Destiny and they all have their own philosophical stance on how to do things in the Destiny Universe, i align with Dead Orbit myself because i feel it's the most logical answer. Holding on to our planets and our lost Golden Age is a mistake, we can find a better life out there among a different star.

What does my faction mean to me? It means the chance to usher in the beginning of a new age. An age lost in time to the broken peaces of the wasteland we once called home. An age of gold, reborn from the shattered memories of the travelers light, with the hope of a world that once stood upon it's glorious promise. A world once lost by the hand of those whom the darkness overwhelmed... and a chance. The chance of a lifetime-no, a millennia. The chance to find what was once lost in hopelessness and rebuild it into a new foundation. A foundation that shakes the very core of our enemy, and restores hope to those who are without. It means protection. No matter the cost. It means a shield that is held on the very shoulders of those who choose for themselves to bear it. For the City. For the Traveler. For the Earth. Though many run, let them run. Though many tremble, let them fear. Though many laugh, let them laugh. And though many cry... We shall wipe their tears. And bring peace with a righteous fist to destroy our oppressors. And liberate the earth and humanity. We are the New Monarchy

If I take a quick look at the three New Monarchy; want to replace the council with a dictator who has absolute power (like that has never gone wrong). FWC; there is and shall be only war. Pick a fight with the biggest baddest dude around and see what happens. Dead Orbit; "Run away" (Monty Pythons Holy Grail should answer this one) A bad attempt at humour aside the only way to ensure humanity survives is to spread as far and wide as possible cos at the moment extinction is probable (all of us in one city on one planet. And the Cabal blow up planets for fun)

Seriously though, if I had to look at them as what they mean to me, it's about your philosophy of why you are playing the game, doing missions, strikes, etc. Dead Orbit believes that we're fighting a losing war, and the only way to win is to reposition ourselves in the universe. Either we escape the Darkness, or we find a way to hold our ground better, somewhere else. FWC are the scholars and philosophers, trying to stop the endless cycle and find some true meaning and a way forward. Willing even to brave death repeatedly, or madness they look for the true nature of the Darkness and what will help us light our way through it. New Monarchy is for those that believe that what we are doing now isn't correct, and would rather employ different methods, both to the war and in governing humanity. I personally identify as FWC, because I think that a NM government would just do more of the same or worse, and Dead Orbit is trying to find a way to escape the problem rather than solve it. FWC is trying to find the answer to our issue; whether they ever will or if it's all futile has yet to be seen. Yet I'd rather be seen as trying to do something about the issues at hand, rather than seize power or run from danger. Which probably explains why I rant, at length, on balance discussion threads.

I may be grasping at straws here but it occurs to me that each faction ties in philosophically to one of the enemies in the game. Dead orbit resembles the fallen. The fallen used to worship the traveler and gained power from it just like we do, but it abandoned them when the darkness came. Like dead orbit, they chose to flee their home world to find a new place in the universe to survive. New monarchy is focusing on a more traditional political / military war. They want to create an army to defend the city. Of course, after your city is safe, you still have an army and the next logical step is to take that army and go conquer new territory with it. Reminds me an awful lot of the cabal. Future war cult is concerned with the coming war and preparing for it. A lot of lore surrounding fwc hints that they might be able to predict the future in some manner. We also know that the exo stranger is a time traveler, and could be linked in some way to the future war cult in the distant future, where that war is occurring. Sounds an awful lot like the vex mo.

Nice to see you back pig, I've been watching your stuff with myelin. I honestly don't believe in any of the philosophies of the factions. I don't believe in monarchies, I don't believe in perpetual warfare, or deserting our home. I side with Osiris.

He's alive! But in all seriousness, I side with FWC the most. New monarchy will end up getting us killed. No focus on the overarching threat. Dead orbit's strategy actually works in one timeline, but we're always running. No place to call home. Just waiting til the darkness catches up. FWC is aware of the overarching threat and knows it can't be beaten by known means, so we search other timelines to see if they found the answer. The one constant is war, and darkness. Therefore, until a true solution is found, we prepare ourselves for a fight of survival on a cosmic scale. That is why I align with FWC.

2 RepliesIs it intentional that the factions represent the different classes? New monarchy=Titans. Protectors of the city, defenders of the wall, etc. Dead Orbit = Hunters. Scavengers, scouts, explorers FWC= Warlocks. Skeptics, pursuers of the unknown, experimenters
