They don't do anything that align to their meaning anyways so who cares.
PvP should have faction wars like Lost Planet 2.

They're shit and became pointless after legendary versions were released. If they were automatic tier 12 they'd serve a purpose but they're not. Sooooooo....no point to them really.

But yeah would love to see faction wars but the idea got scrapped along with 90% of destiny lol hopefully the add it in destiny 2
