[b]Fear in the Heart of a Child[/b]
Mari was hiding in her basement, the six year old werefox terrified to go upstairs with the fighting going on. She had been crying non-stop, only taking breaks whenever she had to eat or sleep. She was afraid her new family would get taken away, just like her old one did, all killed in an invasion not too long ago. She sniffled and sobbed, a large blanket wrapped around her as she hid in the corner of the basement of the apartment building where Sapphire lived. Mari kept having flashbacks to the invasion during the holiday season whenever she heard the sounds of explosives or gunfire, remembering how they had burnt her old home to a crisp, and how Karishad was brutally murdered when they tried coming into the Dojo for safety. She squeezed her eyes shut and nearly screamed as a bomb could be heard going off somewhere nearby.

*She tears off her armor, leaving only the band surrounded in an orange glow on her wrist as she shrinks back down to her normal tiger form and pulls Mari into a tight hug.* [u]Shhhhhh... Mari... It's going to be okay...[/u]

Mari hugged her, letting the blanket around her fall onto the floor as she squeezed her eyes shut, sobbing into Sapphire's shoulder. "I-im s-sc-scared M-Mom.." she managed to say.

[u]I'm here Mari... I'll never, ever let anything happen to you... You're my little Mari... You're safe with me...[/u] *She practically wraps herself around Mari, not wanting to let her go.*

Mari hugged her tighter, screaming fearfully as an explosion shook the building.

*She lets out a soothing noise, something animalistic, like she was making it out of pure instinct as she rests her hand on the back of Mari's head, cradling her like a baby.*

Mari continues to cry, sniffling and hiccuping all the while. She held Sapphire tightly, wishing the violent sounds of war would end. Another blast shook the area, and the building, resulting in another fearful yelp.

*She changes back into her werefox form, touching her forehead to Mari's and looking into her eyes. She keeps making the calming noise in an attempt to calm her down.*

Mari continues sobbing, eventually opening her eyes as she shakily wiped them, starting to calm down as she focused on the sound Saph was making, rather then the terrible bombs.

*Sapphire kept making the noise, her slate eyes staring into Mari's as she gently strokes her back.*

Mari slowly calmed down, sniffling and hiccuping every now and then, closing her eyes and she wrapped her arms around Sapphire's neck again, hugging her tightly as she shook lightly.

*Mari hears Sapphire beginning to sing something which she doesn't understand, a Sphirinian lullaby. Though the words sound like nonsense, the rhyme and meter cause it to have an extremely soothing effect anyway.*

Mari's sniffling soon quiets down as she gets sleepier, her eyelids slowly closing.

*Sapphire gently rocks her side-to-side as she sits down in the corner of the basement to wait out the fighting.*

Mari pulls the blanket back around her, sniffling ever so often. She eventually opens her eyes, braving a small smile. "Th-thank y-you.."

[u]I'm just glad you're okay and no longer crying. I love you, my little werefox...[/u] *She says, giving Mari a gentle lick on the forehead.*

Mari sniffled again, smiling a little more as she nuzzled Sapphire in return.

*She gives Mari a loving kiss on the forehead.*

Mari closed her eyes, resting in Sapphire's arms as she tried falling asleep. She sniffled now and then, but was calm now.

*Sapphire purrs, relaxing as Mari does.*
