House of Scar, Ch. 3: Heathen's Port

This series will take place in the time of the House of Wolves. The House of Scar is a small house led by the kell, Vesrik, which he is rebuilding with his crew. This story will be as lore-accurate as possible. If you missed the last chapter, you can find it here. If you want to find all the chapters, go to the Table of Contents. Please give a bump and comment if you like it! Vesrik hopped over delightedly to the Pilot Servitor, giving it a heading. He said that we were going to a port, but that seems like the wrong word to describe it. The place we know as "Heathen's Port". My fellow senior officer, Zatkis, once described it as a military pub? Yes, I believe that's what he said. Zatkis and Vesrik are the only people among us who have been. Heathen's Port's owner was a man called Malone. Zatkis doesn't trust him, but my kell says it should be fine. "Valerie, what weapon should I take? My trusty pistol, or my assault rifle?" Rager asked me as if my suggestion would matter to him. I would just scoff at him to make him feel like an idiot. "Rager, we are going because our kell is getting our pay. Just take your hand cannon! We won't be here long." He just frowned and grabbed his pistol, as if he would've made any other choice. Zatkis entered the bridge, a little excited to be making port. "Ready for Heathen's Port, yes?" He clicked in his Eliksni accent. "I may not trust Malone, but I do take joy in getting paid." I just chuckled at this young Eliksni's lust for material. That's what we have in common. "I just want a some glimmer and a personal Ceres Galliot. Vesrik says Malone has plenty stored here." The kell jumped in the middle of our conversation. "I hope you remember that we have to incubate a god for House Scar, yes? You all have earned this, but remember what follows." I rolled my eyes at Vesrik's constant anticipation to build Teriks Prime. I know it is of the highest importance in a Houses' culture, but he knows that two thirds of his crew are either Awoken, Human, and Exo. I'm not saying the Eliksni crew don't deserve to live, but it causes problems between the races of the crew. I just hope building this prime servitor will end these problems. Scarship Teriks-syn had Heathen's Port in sights. Unlike most ports in the Reef, it did not sit on an asteroid. It was a floating station, ships flying in and out. Some who came here were looking for a ship, others looked for a drunken time, and some came to pick a fight with Malone. Vesrik turned to us and said, "Alright, you three. Malone should have your rewards in the hangar: Valerie, your ship and glimmer, Rager, he has your sniper waiting, and Zatkis, your new blade is there too. I'll be... catching up with good ol' Malone." He's not going to leave the ketch untended to, is he?, I thought. "But my kell, who will hold down the ketch? We can't leave the Pilot Servitor by itself without any of the senior officers on board." Vesrik checked himself and came to realize it. "Yes, yes, thank you for reminding me, Valerie. I will leave Zatkis on board, just make sure you get his blade while you are in the hangar." That's strange. Vesrik isn't one to forget something like that, I thought. Something has Vesrik on edge, but I know not to ask. I cared for my kell, but I did not want to question his ability to get us through anything. Vesrik, Rager, and I took twelve crewmen and a skiff down, landing in the main hangar. Once we left the skiff, we saw several men and awoken standing, waiting for us. The most notable was a man with a black leather trench coat, combat boots, and a hand cannon strapped to his belt. He was an Irish man with short curly hair and kept his facial hair limited to a goatee. He walked up to us with a smile on his face. "Vesrik! The Kell of Decapitation, if I'm remembering that correctly." Malone then looked over at me, his sly smile looking more stupid than he intended. "Hello, beautiful. My name is Malone, if you don't know by now. Vesrik, who is this dime you got in your crew?" I glared at Malone, already able to tell the kind of guy he was. I scoffed at the captain of the port. "You know, captain, I could easily have your neck ringed. Besides, it seems you have enough women in your crew." I nod over to the door of the hangar, where two awoken women were flirting with the guards. He just smiled over my comment, impressed. "I like your crew's spirit, Vesrik. They will stay here in the hangar with my crewmen. We will discuss things over in the bar, shall we?" Vesrik looked over at us, then back at Malone. "Yes, that would be fine. Valerie, Rager, you will be given your pay." Vesrik and Malone walked over to another room, and one of Malone's crewman approached. He gave a bow, gesturing us to follow him afterward. I could see my Ceres Galliot only a few meters away, and I was happy to get my own ship. Rager looked at me sarcastically and said, "This place is nice and all, but I prefer the Mad House." The thought of it gave me chills. "I prefer not to go near places like that. I don't know how a man's conscious wouldn't eat him alive while he even sits in a place like that." Rager just looked at me with boredom. "In battle, you are my favorite. But in a club house, you really are not that fun." I laughed teasingly and said, "Well, I never really asked to be in a crew with you either, Mr. Rager. But I live with it, and so do you. We're just lucky Vesrik tolerates any of us." I heard a strange Eliksni chuckle I did not recognize sound from behind me. "That's good for you, but I don't think I will be as tolerant as your kell, yes?"
