Let's be honest, most of the patches that have come out are riddled with gameplay breaking bugs and glitches that can basically break the back of Destiny for some players for weeks until hotfixes finally come out with a fix. Here's an idea, how's about Bungie introduces a PTS launch of Destiny that opens up a week before the future patch goes live. In this version we have access to Crucible and the Strike Playlist with only reputation as rewards to promote testing and leaving feedback on the forums and reddit. This will also help the liveteam to find out what bugs they can fix and see if under stress test some changes work or not.
