We know from the Books of Sorrow how the Worms work. They offer power in exchange for abiding to a simple rule: Act true to your nature, or be consumed.
Touch of Malice contains Oryx's Worm. While a Guardian wielding the weapon doesn't have the Worm inside them, they are connected to it by the act of wielding it. Think on the properties of the weapon itself: It offers a increase in damage output at exchange for health, but returns health with three rapid kills.
What is 'acting true to your nature' for a Guardian? Most would argue that, at their simplest reduction, a Guardian is an instrument of death-dealing.
The Worm rewards us for being true to our deepest nature and if we do not with enough swiftness, it consumes us.
I realize many probably made this connection ages ago, however.. it occurred to me a moment ago and I wanted to share. Make of it what you will.
