best thing ever said

So a fellow Guardian named Boobel commented this on a post. I just wanted to post it. "There wasn't a singular thing that ruined the original Destiny experience. It was a culmination of multiple errors. Year 1 was good. Like if you played the alpha, and the beta, and year 1, you are aware of the reason for the anger that fills the forum now. A lot of folk may dismiss this, but if you did it, you know. You had a nightfall that when you were launching in, you were a tad nervous. Because you knew you could spend an hour or so trying, just to lose it all very fast, and be booted to orbit. The sense of achievement when you completed it was excellent. The rewards were good too. You would run the raid, and be ecstatic to receive the VOC. Then, you do Atheon over, and over, and eventually, the Vex Mythoclast dropped. And the grind just is SO worth it. You'd relive the moment with destiny pals when they saw you had it. Year 1 felt relevant. There was an end game gun we chased. We felt rewarded. We saw parts of the cosmodrome that were locked away. DLC. But already on the disc. Then year 2 arrived. And it started to feel like the best parts of the game were slowly being removed. We were told by Bungie that we were playing the game wrong. They had perks on guns, and when we used them effectively, all within the realms of the game, we were told we were using them wrong. Then we started to feel the affects of nerfing. Guns which we had worked so hard to get, became useless. The variety of weapons available was still big, but nerfs forced players to use very few. auto rifles started to fade, our game was being directed by the requests of the supplementary PvP aspect of the game. Updates came that meant previous content we paid for, was made useless. Game modes that are supposed to encourage team work in pve were forgotten. You aren't allowed raid matchmaking but, we shall matchmake you a pvp session with 11 people from all over the world resulting in a terrible experience. We won't matchmake nightfall, because you might get someone who is bad. That's better than no matchmaking right. Then, we got told previous gen was holding back vault space. Then, luke Smith tells us we are playing his game wrong, but we're going to throw money at the screen anyway. And there's way more to kingsfall. 0,4% auto rifle. What's VOG again? Who is Crota? Trials further toxicated the game. Bungie based game updates on trials. YouTube streamers. The community was ignored. The game grew towards trials, bungie pandered to this, pve got a few more stabs in the back. Lag switching. Bungie didn't seem fussed. We became iron Lords, and we were happy for a bit. That mountaintop. That raid. But it fizzled. More nerfs. Friends list didn't show Destiny as much. The last gen vault space limitations seemed a lie. It didn't increase when last gen wasn't included. Shotguns. Matador. Heavy ammo. Special ammo. Then Age of Triumph. Bungie thank us for participating in a 3 year beta, and begrudgingly make year 1 relevant again with some new year 2, but on their terms. Oh you want elemental fatebringer? Thats fine, but it'll take an exotic slot instead. Destiny was failed a lot on petty little stuff, stuff that folk meddled with, that was in reality, doing ok. And there wasn't more to kingsfall. If Destiny 2 can avoid the blindingly obvious mistakes that happened over the last 3 years, they could have a fantastic game in the making." Edit: Thanks for all the replies guardians! Edit 2: Whoa this is trending. Never been up here before, and it wasn't even my own words lol Edit 3: Number 1 trending. Wow. Thanks for everyone who liked and commented! Edit 4: Thank you all for the amazing posts! I'm glad people know how good this game could be. How good it should be. UPDATE! NEW WORDS BY BOOBEL!! "Thanks for highlighting my post. The fact that so many other players are in agreement does give credit to what I said. I expected people to say I was wrong etc, however we are entitled to our opinions. Maybe these are the people who forget that the game was never sold as being a pvp game. They clearly told us it was a pve game, with optional pvp. We also were told that a day one weapon would be relevant to whatever direction the game took. They aggravated people by completely doing a u turn on this, leaving many stuck at 170. If people feel it necessary to repost what I said, this to me just gives further evidence we agree. It's then funny to note that people said my observations of Y1 is the result of rosetinting, and I was wrong. I'm that wrong, that they are making raids relevant again, bringing back older weapons. They also have made AR better again, after the pvp nerds rendered them useless. It is also funny that people are assuming I'm wholly praising year 1, when I simply listed, in time order, things that I remembered from the top of my head. All of the points I made, weren't borne from negativity. They actually happened. So if you choose to focus on one aspect of my comments, rather than the whole post, you'll fail to see I simply pointed out what was done incorrectly, or things that were done that resulted in a poor experience. I am sure a lot of people are happy with the game how it is now, I merely gave my opinion on things that actually happened in the game, that left many of us disappointed." Edit 5: OVER 500 UPVOTES! Dang, is this a record or something? Someone has to know. Edit 6: Over 600 upvotes. Dang Edit 7: 700 UPVOTES BABY!

  • Thank for posting this words and sharing with the comunity. As a y2 player i dont really know how it was from the beginning and cant comment all the things in the post. But one thing i know is that i love this game and even after all the hate posts here and nerfs and buffs and all the things that changed the game im really addicted to it and since the 1st day ive played it no other game got me so like DESTINY.I am not a hater or someone who came here to make nerf posts only because everyone used the same guns(matador,clever,....)but i always looked to go my own way,to adapt,to find new ways of challenge and tried to get my best experience and fun from the game and i always found it and that is the real reason we all playing games for fun for grind and for US.And im glad to see here people that have the same thinking like me and dont start against other people and judge theme only because of they own statement or when they english is not so good like MINE:-)The comunity is for me really important and without it is Destiny only a half game and i want be a part of it even if my english isnt the best.(i got more hate posts for my eng than for posts i made about the game thats sad ).But i thank you all for a great game and sharing your thoughts here and many of you who helped and are helping other people they dont have much friends and this game is all about this and i made many good friendships here and im really glad of this. • I'll never understand this romanticism over Y1. Year 1 Destiny got bad reviews and wasn't well liked outside of Mr. Hard Core gamer. Yes, that same Mr. Hardcore that complains endlessly over everything in Destiny. Bungie got smart and realized catering exclusively to that crowd is a recipe for disaster. While I don't agree with nerfing gear into the ground, TTK and April Update made the game much better.

      • People look back on year 1 with a fondness i could only describe as Stockholm syndrome. Y1 was praised not because the game was good, it had tons of major problems, but because it was still new. Y1, especially vanilla was an abomination of a game. Iv never played a triple A title that's been plagued with so many problems consistently throughout its history.

        • year 1 sucked balls compared to ttk, they fixed so much with that dlc it was ridiculous, that's why roi felt a little lackluster because it was more of the same and not a huge improvement like ttk, now crucible is much better than it used to be, i'll gladly leave yr1 behind with its thorn, last word , felwinter sniper and final round snipers, being unable to join raids because of stupid lfg requirements you MUST have the raid emblem, ballerhorn or it's a no go. the rewards were great because the game was new,but other than the sense of discovery and accomplishment yr1 was a shit show, and in ttk they got their shit together.

Year 1 was ass. It only seemed better because you were having fun with a new toy. When Taken King came, you had been playing the game for a year, you got bored. Also, attacking Bungie for little mistakes they made in year 2 and year 3 is pointless. Their biggest mistake was releasing an unfinished, lazy and weak game. Which is what made Year One terrible, the game was poorly structured and designed. Taken King and Rise of Iron greatly improved on many of those mistakes, allowing the game to still be worth all of our time. How many of you would still be playing if Bungie never improved on the design flaws of Year One? I know I wouldn't have more than 50 days into this game like I do now.

              • I can agree mostly with this post, but there are also a lot of good little things that have come from yr 1 and yr 2. It's a love hate relationship with this game. Leveling up in yr1 had to be the most grueling thing I've ever done in this game. That since has been fixed. Elemental primaries are great, some people think exotic implementations of them are a good thing. Myself and others don't see it . That's fine at the end of the day we are still here either playing, following, praising and criticizing this game. I truly feel and have said from the first dlc beyond this game was a beta test. Like it or not we players as a community have a lot of influence on the state of the game and most likely the final product that will be destiny 2. I'm sure that won't be perfect either but most if not all of us will probably still be here. To those that are we can agree to disagree but the one thing we all share is the love we have for this game.

              • The only thing that almost killed this game was PvP and the focus that it received in the later era of Destiny. Many people, myself included, turned to this game as an activity that would allow them a chance to play with friends and strangers alike, and not be in a PvP fast paced environment. A game where you made friends at random moments just from helping a dude out with a fallen walker in the cosmodrome. A game that wasn't just another PvP re-skin dressed a little different. Bungie realized that not everyone is a PvP master and eats sleeps and breathes to make others suffer for their crap skills or lack of thumbs. They created a cooperative space that allowed us scrubs to enjoy time with our buddies and not fall prey to people wanting to pad their k/d's for their own vanity. It wasn't until later when they started balancing the game towards PvP that this game went downhill. Balances that were dictated by trials performance stats made a lot of impact on the pve player, some in good ways, others not so much. But at the end of it all, Destiny is still one of the only fps games that allows me to hang out with buddies after work and kill random aliens without having to just play PvP all the time.

I do not speak for the community but personally I like this update. I saw that elemental primaries were coming back in exotic form, I was pretty dissapointed at first. I played year 1 and also ran the holy trinity of Fate, Hammer, and Gally. I felt powerful ripping through Vault and Crota. It was the only load out I ever ran basically. However I do see the direction they took on this. Diversity. During year 1 you were not accepted in raid groups without the combo of Fate, Hammer, and Gally. Although I questioned all the nerfs and what have you. I was pissed when they took everything in Taken King and a lot of weapons seemed horrible to use unless it was a 1000 yrd Stare or vendor Hung Jury. There was at least a little variety. Then came the April Update and with it came a little more variety. With ROIs release came more a lot more variety. Pulses, Autos, and Scouts that can roll with some significant game changing perks. Needless to say although content was very short lived I seen players use all type of load outs for PVE content. PVP on the other hand is still filled with more of the same usual load outs. In closing I am pretty impressed with these new changes. It still promotes weapon diversity while tactically thinking about your weapon load outs with elemental damage. At the same time preventing the "required" load outs to run certain content. I don't agree with the timeframe they decided all this to come to play and it really could of been well thought out prior to releasing the game as a whole or even implementing this change with the release of Taken King. Too little too late.

                • Great post. However, I don't get what's so bad about an exotic fatebringer. Bungie stated that they made a mistake by making elemental primaries in year 1 because everything was made too easy and there were hardly any reasons for people to use special or heavy weapons. So, by making arc fatebringer exotic was pretty smart i.m.o.

                        • Its weird how all of these things you mentioned didnt ruin the game for so many. I wonder, do people who feel the way you do expect a game that went this long to go without any errors? Is it that hard to see that whatever changes Bungie makes its not going to please the whole community? Dont forget who you have to blame for all the nerfs also, and thats the community, this whiny and petty community. Id say to people who feel the way you do: good luck finding a game that will keep you engaged for 2+ years without you feeling any mistakes were made by the developer.

                          • Much of the "Bring back Y1" sentiments are based on nostalgia. Bringing back the Y1 format isn't going to recreate that feeling of wonder and awe as you explored the game further.

I loved the way vanilla Destiny's progression system was, the guaranteed materials to slowly level up, the XP grinds showing your time and determination over armor and weapons, and the rarity of good gear dropping was just SO special. And those times you got to share your experiences with friends. Now this game has been brought to help people conserve time, by making drops easier, progressing faster, using motes to upgrade and donate, etc; all in turn making the game easier. Honestly, I think Bungie was listening to the community, but a majority of the community were short-term PvP players that wanted to spend the absolute 'least' amount of time possible in PvE, which we all knew and loved...

Yeppity yep yep! People who were late comers to this game had no idea what they were missing. This game could have been amazing and when I think about what we've lost it makes me sad. We lost so much and now Destiny feels hollow, empty, without purpose, without a soul. They've stripped the game down to bare bones to cater to the other side, pvp and Trials, but its backfired on them because now the pvp is worse off. Why? They drove the casuals away. They drove dedicated players away. That's all a community consists of is casuals and dedicated and new players. They drove 2/3rds away. The fact people continue to act snotty towards lower skilled players just shows how naive and ignorant they are. Elitism kills games. You can't have a game like Destiny and not have a player-base to support it. I'm kind of in fear that no matter how much hype they give D2, players won't return, and there aren't many new gamers left to acquire out there. I fear the road will be short for Destiny. Shorter than 10 years. If there isn't a strong player-base, then D2 will be an utter failure before it's even released. I'm guessing this is what Activision wants so they can take over Bungie? Bungie can't blame anyone but themselves. Activision has reached out and gave them help to create D2, but if Bungie can't maintain D2 after the extra studios leave, they will be in for a bad surprise later on down the road. There will be a lot of "cleaning house" if you know what I mean.

Nothing is ever fully revealed in the live twitch streams. Bungie always leaves stuff out for us to find. Could it be that there will be new perks to the exotic versions of the guns we miss? Maybe, they never opened up any of the perk trees to show us. Or maybe, just maybe we can wear more than one exotic........... oh the possibilities........ well played bungie! Lmao
