So a fellow Guardian named Boobel commented this on a post. I just wanted to post it. "There wasn't a singular thing that ruined the original Destiny experience. It was a culmination of multiple errors. Year 1 was good. Like if you played the alpha, and the beta, and year 1, you are aware of the reason for the anger that fills the forum now. A lot of folk may dismiss this, but if you did it, you know. You had a nightfall that when you were launching in, you were a tad nervous. Because you knew you could spend an hour or so trying, just to lose it all very fast, and be booted to orbit. The sense of achievement when you completed it was excellent. The rewards were good too. You would run the raid, and be ecstatic to receive the VOC. Then, you do Atheon over, and over, and eventually, the Vex Mythoclast dropped. And the grind just is SO worth it. You'd relive the moment with destiny pals when they saw you had it. Year 1 felt relevant. There was an end game gun we chased. We felt rewarded. We saw parts of the cosmodrome that were locked away. DLC. But already on the disc. Then year 2 arrived. And it started to feel like the best parts of the game were slowly being removed. We were told by Bungie that we were playing the game wrong. They had perks on guns, and when we used them effectively, all within the realms of the game, we were told we were using them wrong. Then we started to feel the affects of nerfing. Guns which we had worked so hard to get, became useless. The variety of weapons available was still big, but nerfs forced players to use very few. auto rifles started to fade, our game was being directed by the requests of the supplementary PvP aspect of the game. Updates came that meant previous content we paid for, was made useless. Game modes that are supposed to encourage team work in pve were forgotten. You aren't allowed raid matchmaking but, we shall matchmake you a pvp session with 11 people from all over the world resulting in a terrible experience. We won't matchmake nightfall, because you might get someone who is bad. That's better than no matchmaking right. Then, we got told previous gen was holding back vault space. Then, luke Smith tells us we are playing his game wrong, but we're going to throw money at the screen anyway. And there's way more to kingsfall. 0,4% auto rifle. What's VOG again? Who is Crota? Trials further toxicated the game. Bungie based game updates on trials. YouTube streamers. The community was ignored. The game grew towards trials, bungie pandered to this, pve got a few more stabs in the back. Lag switching. Bungie didn't seem fussed. We became iron Lords, and we were happy for a bit. That mountaintop. That raid. But it fizzled. More nerfs. Friends list didn't show Destiny as much. The last gen vault space limitations seemed a lie. It didn't increase when last gen wasn't included. Shotguns. Matador. Heavy ammo. Special ammo. Then Age of Triumph. Bungie thank us for participating in a 3 year beta, and begrudgingly make year 1 relevant again with some new year 2, but on their terms. Oh you want elemental fatebringer? Thats fine, but it'll take an exotic slot instead. Destiny was failed a lot on petty little stuff, stuff that folk meddled with, that was in reality, doing ok. And there wasn't more to kingsfall. If Destiny 2 can avoid the blindingly obvious mistakes that happened over the last 3 years, they could have a fantastic game in the making." Edit: Thanks for all the replies guardians! The fact that so many other players are in agreement does give credit to what I said. I expected people to say I was wrong etc, however we are entitled to our opinions. Maybe these are the people who forget that the game was never sold as being a pvp game. They clearly told us it was a pve game, with optional pvp. We also were told that a day one weapon would be relevant to whatever direction the game took. They aggravated people by completely doing a u turn on this, leaving many stuck at 170. If people feel it necessary to repost what I said, this to me just gives further evidence we agree. It's then funny to note that people said my observations of Y1 is the result of rosetinting, and I was wrong. I'm that wrong, that they are making raids relevant again, bringing back older weapons. They also have made AR better again, after the pvp nerds rendered them useless. It is also funny that people are assuming I'm wholly praising year 1, when I simply listed, in time order, things that I remembered from the top of my head. All of the points I made, weren't borne from negativity. They actually happened. So if you choose to focus on one aspect of my comments, rather than the whole post, you'll fail to see I simply pointed out what was done incorrectly, or things that were done that resulted in a poor experience. I am sure a lot of people are happy with the game how it is now, I merely gave my opinion on things that actually happened in the game, that left many of us disappointed." Edit 5: OVER 500 UPVOTES! Over the last year the game has got so so easy, in fact easy isn't the word really Put yourself in a crucible match move your stick around looking at the scenery not even shooting and you can get to 400 Rise of iron launched and eliminated end game content completely with most 400 after only a day or so People left Let's have some challenge or content that's actually hard

      • I can agree with pretty much all of this. I still enjoy Destiny now and again even with all it's shortcomings, but it's always a shadow of what it once was. We've always been playing on their terms, and the game was the most fun when we were playing on OUR terms. I remember when the loot cave became a social phenomenon, and even though it was pretty pointless, it was still super fun to do! They were always quick to fix things like that, but never so quick to fix game breaking raid bugs. All of the best memories I have from the game that I talk to friends about are from year 1, from the cosmodrome, from VoG, from Crota, hell I even have some decent Skolas and PoE memories. I don't really have any meaningful memories from Year 2 after TTK dropped. The game felt like it became too serious and took itself too seriously. They took our favorite weapons and ways to play and said "you have to play like this now, with only these weapons." With every step forward they made in the game, they took two steps back... The same is true for Age of Triumph, sure we technically get our favorite gear returning, but gated through unnecessary means. Where the game is coming to an end, I have to wonder what the point of continuing to gate progress every week is. These are my biggest worries for Destiny 2... With all the gates in the game, the loot doesn't really seem worth it, I don't mind grind, but rolling the dice and then not being able to roll it again for another week or more isn't grinding, it's literally waiting... That's the point where I stop playing, when I have a goal, but Bungie tells me I can't play towards my goal, instead I have to wait and do something else until that time comes...

        • Incompetence is the headlining issue: they made an average game(stick your Dink in, now defend), and then eroded it over the next few years. Great idea that fell into the lap of an incompetent developer.

          • Well done. 👍👏👊 While I get the sense of accomplishment that everyone used to feel after running the Y1 Nightfall, I'm glad it no longer kicks you to orbit. That sucked. I started Destiny sometime mid HoW. The struggle was real. No crew to run Crota, or VoG, no Raid weapons, and no chance of beating Skolas without the raid weapons. The Nightfall was also infinitely more difficult without them but we managed. My only problem in Y1 was the elitism. No Raid weapons, no Gally? Good luck finding a team bro. I never got Elemental Primaries when they were actually relevant but I understand their significance and I can't wait to get them back!!!

            • For me, it's the lack of delivery on what was expected with the world. The poor storytelling despite the awesome lore. The fixation on PvP and desire to balance everything around it, which lead to way too many nerfs and ultimately reducing our power in PvE over time.

                • Just going to say, I ran VoG the other day with 3 of my friends and I got the Year 1 Mythoclast to drop. You probably didn't want a headset on cause I was screaming so much. :P

                    • Honestly I usually don't agree with all these whiny posts about how I miss this glory days and all that but honestly these are really good points and I honestly forgot what I was like to grind for a real goal, and not just for a complete armor set. Not that they will, but I really hope some bungie exec reads this because this is very accurate.

                        • So true, but I believe Activision is the ones persuading Bungie to change their game. And if I could, I'd buy a last gen console and destiny to go back to year 1. But none of us can. And even though raids are coming back the same, and the armor cooler than ever, and new subclasses to test in them with equal light. The progression, the loot, the encouragement that drove us to do these raids, again and again, are gone... and that's what affects us most.

                            Spot on, but Bungie doesn't care bc we are dumb sheep that continue to play this game and comment on their forums They've tricked their community into buying items from their stores for shaders and emblems. Buying silver for items that won't carry over. Creating the largest streaming community by offering a silly emblem They continue to use, abuse and openly mock their community and yet here we still are. They continue to attempt to dictate how we play all while saying they listen to us. Age of triumph is supposed to celebrate the past but won't allow us to be play how we want Nobody to blame but ourselves

                            • Most true thing I have read on this forum. It reflects why I won't be buying into any further destiny game until its final update has been released. I've stent xkiat to €200 On a game that now costs €12-€49.

                              • The sad thing about this is, that bungie is not interested in listening to him and all other guardians who said something like this. Oh wait I forgot because nobody asked for this - touch of malices exotic perk got Nerfed because oryx complained about it - solution = 50 m nerf because a scout should not snipe people.. -blam!-ing bungie sandbox team dumb as -blam!-ing hell. Why don't they listen.. why not make the game great again...?!?!?

The arrogance in constantly hammering it in that this is [i]their[/i] game, not ours. That we are merely paying to rent a license to use their game. That they can change whatever they want whenever they want. They can dictate how we play the game since they are owners and control it. It's not like the old days when you bought a game and it was yours, warts and all. They can change it at a whim, so you can come back and play a month later and find everything different. Even down to the perks on your favorite gun can be erased. The stability on your favorite auto rifle, the mag size in your field scout weapon. The abilities of your characters can be totally different. You don't own a damn thing. And anything that you "earned" or "collected" can be gone in an instant- rendered powerless.

                                    • Agreed with almost everything - re streamers, many seem to talk negatively about them. The ones I watch anyway have said year one was most fun and would be up for going back to it. Before recent patch were asking for a primary buff esp auto rifles. I also saw this on many forum post but bungie nerfed special instead by removing it on death. This is not what was asked for and NO ONE asked them to nerf Truth.
