best thing ever said

So a fellow Guardian named Boobel commented this on a post. I just wanted to post it. "There wasn't a singular thing that ruined the original Destiny experience. It was a culmination of multiple errors. Year 1 was good. Like if you played the alpha, and the beta, and year 1, you are aware of the reason for the anger that fills the forum now. A lot of folk may dismiss this, but if you did it, you know. You had a nightfall that when you were launching in, you were a tad nervous. Because you knew you could spend an hour or so trying, just to lose it all very fast, and be booted to orbit. The sense of achievement when you completed it was excellent. The rewards were good too. You would run the raid, and be ecstatic to receive the VOC. Then, you do Atheon over, and over, and eventually, the Vex Mythoclast dropped. And the grind just is SO worth it. You'd relive the moment with destiny pals when they saw you had it. Year 1 felt relevant. There was an end game gun we chased. We felt rewarded. We saw parts of the cosmodrome that were locked away. DLC. But already on the disc. Then year 2 arrived. And it started to feel like the best parts of the game were slowly being removed. We were told by Bungie that we were playing the game wrong. They had perks on guns, and when we used them effectively, all within the realms of the game, we were told we were using them wrong. Then we started to feel the affects of nerfing. Guns which we had worked so hard to get, became useless. The variety of weapons available was still big, but nerfs forced players to use very few. auto rifles started to fade, our game was being directed by the requests of the supplementary PvP aspect of the game. Updates came that meant previous content we paid for, was made useless. Game modes that are supposed to encourage team work in pve were forgotten. You aren't allowed raid matchmaking but, we shall matchmake you a pvp session with 11 people from all over the world resulting in a terrible experience. We won't matchmake nightfall, because you might get someone who is bad. That's better than no matchmaking right. Then, we got told previous gen was holding back vault space. Then, luke Smith tells us we are playing his game wrong, but we're going to throw money at the screen anyway. And there's way more to kingsfall. 0,4% auto rifle. What's VOG again? Who is Crota? Trials further toxicated the game. Bungie based game updates on trials. YouTube streamers. The community was ignored. The game grew towards trials, bungie pandered to this, pve got a few more stabs in the back. Lag switching. Bungie didn't seem fussed. We became iron Lords, and we were happy for a bit. That mountaintop. That raid. But it fizzled. More nerfs. Friends list didn't show Destiny as much. The last gen vault space limitations seemed a lie. It didn't increase when last gen wasn't included. Shotguns. Matador. Heavy ammo. Special ammo. Then Age of Triumph. Bungie thank us for participating in a 3 year beta, and begrudgingly make year 1 relevant again with some new year 2, but on their terms. Oh you want elemental fatebringer? Thats fine, but it'll take an exotic slot instead. Destiny was failed a lot on petty little stuff, stuff that folk meddled with, that was in reality, doing ok. And there wasn't more to kingsfall. If Destiny 2 can avoid the blindingly obvious mistakes that happened over the last 3 years, they could have a fantastic game in the making." Edit: Thanks for all the replies guardians! Edit 2: Whoa this is trending. Never been up here before, and it wasn't even my own words lol Edit 3: Number 1 trending. Wow. Thanks for everyone who liked and commented! Edit 4: Thank you all for the amazing posts! I'm glad people know how good this game could be. How good it should be. UPDATE! NEW WORDS BY BOOBEL!! "Thanks for highlighting my post. The fact that so many other players are in agreement does give credit to what I said. I expected people to say I was wrong etc, however we are entitled to our opinions. Maybe these are the people who forget that the game was never sold as being a pvp game. They clearly told us it was a pve game, with optional pvp. We also were told that a day one weapon would be relevant to whatever direction the game took. They aggravated people by completely doing a u turn on this, leaving many stuck at 170. If people feel it necessary to repost what I said, this to me just gives further evidence we agree. It's then funny to note that people said my observations of Y1 is the result of rosetinting, and I was wrong. I'm that wrong, that they are making raids relevant again, bringing back older weapons. They also have made AR better again, after the pvp nerds rendered them useless. It is also funny that people are assuming I'm wholly praising year 1, when I simply listed, in time order, things that I remembered from the top of my head. All of the points I made, weren't borne from negativity. They actually happened. So if you choose to focus on one aspect of my comments, rather than the whole post, you'll fail to see I simply pointed out what was done incorrectly, or things that were done that resulted in a poor experience. I am sure a lot of people are happy with the game how it is now, I merely gave my opinion on things that actually happened in the game, that left many of us disappointed." Edit 5: OVER 500 UPVOTES! Dang, is this a record or something? Someone has to know. Edit 6: Over 600 upvotes. Dang Edit 7: 700 UPVOTES BABY!

  • Well said, full respect for Boobel and yourself. You seem to grasp that this is the way to get a topic trending, not by hurling insults and being offensive. I feel like most players don't really want to be civilised and talk about problems they're having with the game, but instead just hurl insults.

      • It indeed happend like you said, even more went wrong but we wont beat that dead horse once more. I bought this game on what Bungie advertised , like there slogan , if you see it you can go there. I am a big pve player, so for me it did turned out for the worse along the way, like you said Pvp became there main focus. Just before TTk came out my friends were fedup with the bs in this game and left. I am talking about two pages of my friendslist that played Destiny, now 2 guys are on and of playing this game now. I know this game is an old one now, but still Bungie failed to keep it new and exiting . D2 is coming, its hard to keep faith that they wont do the same bs all over again. Its there game , who are we to tell them what to do . Only thing we can do is dont buy it and wait and see what they did this time around. Cheers my fellow guardian .

        • Agree with everything except wanting raid matchmaking. To reply specifically to your VoG comment, the grind made year 1 worth it. But it appears as though there won't be a grind in year 2. They're going to continue to cater to casuals. That's going to drive down play hours and possibly sales overall.

        • I agree with most points, maybe not all. But particularly the bits about nightfall and 3 of coins as well as the pvp nerfs destroying guns in pve.

              • You're right with the nerfs. I first noticed this with a ninja nerf to sunsinger when ttk dropped. That was fine, I used another load out. Then that was nerfed, then the next and then the next. then Bungie nerfed GG gun because it was decent. It saddens me when people make videos on how to have fun on destiny.

                • Agreed. I started just after Crota came around. A friend of mine once got 2 Gjallarhorns in one weekend. This simply blew our mind. My first trials flawless, not a carry!!: 3 of us running bubble Titans, praying our playing the capture point would work... #Rustedlands Running the relic on Kings Fall... I still have our selfies with Oryx floating in the background... Despite the seemingly wrong decisions with guns, etc., I am content with the memories and time spent.

I've always liked Destiny, all the metas have been fine for me. I mainly play PVP and I think the game is the closest to being balanced that it's ever been, year 1 was just annoying in terms of PVP, just had better matchmaking.

The reason the game is a casual game right now is because the community themselves complained that "drops were too hard," "getting to lvl 30 was too hard", "I've beaten VoG x amount of times and this new guy just started last month and he's already lvl 30 because he got lucky." All that "forever 29" crap. Remember? Just face it guys, you brought this upon yourselves. Stop blaming Bungie for everything. If anything, they've listened to the community more than not.

                    • I've said this before and I'll say it again. There was never any "disk-locked content. "But it was in trailers!!!!" So? Development is a long process. TDB released just a few months after the original launch. A good portion of it had to have been in process before release. "But, but, all those empty DLC spaces!!!!!1!!" Again, so? That's called planning ahead. Having the spaces ready meant that when the content was ready (which it wasn't, not at launch), they could drop it in. Beyond that common (and absurd) misconception, your notion that vanilla was better because we all had a common weapon to chase is beyond ridiculous. I seem to remember complaints back then that everyone looked the same. The "metas" back then were a lot more specific as well. Beyond that, playing just for the hope of some reward is why so many of you got burned out. And then started whining. A lot has changed. The complaining spirit of this community hasn't. It's sad really, as things are finally coming together. These last few months have been the most fun I've had in destiny yet. The special ammo fix isn't ideal, but it is a solution. I just wish you kids would stop searching for things to complain about and enjoy the damn game.

                      • I agree whole heartedly with your post and Beebels quote, my only fear is that Bungie and Activision have already seen the money and pr they can get from destiny's pvp...and will push the agenda come destiny 2. Now done right that won't necessarily be bad, I just hope it's not a main focus, 50/50 is my hopes, 80/20 is my guess.

Because they r admitting they may have been too harsh with some nerfs or that a particular nerf is no longer necessary.

                        • Y'all can disagree with aspects of the quoted opinion, but dismissing it wholly with a rose-colored glasses jab is simply wrong. Y1 wasn't glorious and he didn't intend to say it was. The point was the progression. I read those points and nodded along. I'm extremely confident that the large majority of folks who bothered to reply with nothing better than a joke about being whiny are pvp-centric and therefore refuse to see this perspective. To you, I say eat a big bag. No worse than your wasted reply was. This game WAS promised as pve-focused with pvp content. What it's become feels more like a flailing attempt to satiate all while pandering to some, and it misses. My passion for this game has dramatically died and I think it's a shame and a waste of potential to be the best game made. Not joking.

                          • Very well said. It's sad because this is my favorite game I've ever played but I'm fed up about being lied to. Bungie has earned zero trust and credibility with me Vault Space: Direct quote by Senior Producer Scott Taylor on the lead up to ROI launch regarding vault space: “Not on day one.” Continuing, he adds, “If I open my phone right now, we’re working on solutions that make that a good experience… We’re working on it. Not only did they not give use more vault space, they allocated development resources for creating a kiosk to facilitate silver dust and ornaments microtransactions as well as a holiday kiosk for the same reason. Meanwhile, we get all these consumables through microtransactions and Bungie PURPOSELY gives us no quick way to discard them to conserve vault space. You know why? Because they want us to use them so that people will see us in the tower to help promote microtransactions for them. Older lies: Auto Rifle buff (0.04%) We're not using SBMM We're not using SBMM We're not using SBMM We're not using SBMM Ok, we're using SBMM We're fixing SBMM We're fixing SBMM We're fixing SBMM We're fixing SBMM Comitatus is not bugged Damage Referee Mercy Rule We know you value your gear, you'll be able to take them forward We're fixing SBMM We're banning people Bungie lies that will make you laugh: Playable terrain (check at the 2 mins mark): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BTfhrONAp-c Checking the playable terrain: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V9YoJjdEBv8
