I'm extremely unhappy with the way they're handling VoG and Crota raid primaries. Legendary weapons with elemental effects were the product of mastering a piece of endgame content and beating it weekly. To have that reward taken away in the current game isn't right and I'll be making my own post on that very soon.
As for trials adding more toxicity to the game I'm not going to disagree with you. However, Trials is something that makes people come back and play destiny weekly. The overall population Friday-Monday does jump to some extent due to trials. It has been the leading cause of crucible nerfs and problems, but as I said it brings players back to the game weekly and bungie knows that.
Overall I think bungie is making a good decision with bad execution. Nostalgia is a very powerful thing when used correctly because it's a good it way to make those who left out of disappointment return and to make raiders drool at the opportunity to run the content they loved all over again. Bringing back Vault of Glass is a huge step in the right direction. It is to this day regarded as the best raid in the game and something that bungie designed to perfection. Crota returning and hopefully redesigned to some extent to require multiple guardians (I swear if it's soloable again I'm going to lose my mind and not in a good way) shows that bungie is trying to some extent to get us to buy Destiny 2.
Oh and the anger on the forums is mostly just from the general toxicity of the forum population. If you go on LFG and find some people to raid with every now and then or just join groups for activities you'll realize the forums don't give a good generalization for the entire community. A lot of people are down to earth and realize that this game has some strong points with glaring weaknesses that bungie needs to address or refine.

This was my response to someone on elemental primaries
Lets go back in the past to Vanilla Destiny. You're a level 20, just hit max level after a month or 2 of playing. you load up a strike playlist or just a strike and you are using your kinetic weapons having a hard time taking down the shields of that centurion. Now you're level 26, you're going into VoG for the first time with your buddies. You barely beat Atheon after hours of trying, and you got the vision of confluence. A huge grin is on your face knowing all that grinding has finally paid off. You got your god weapon. You can finally become legend. You load up another strike and you are using that vision for the first time. You go to that centurion again and you MELT that shield. That centurion is dead within seconds! And you know its because you earned that weapon. You deserve to be a god, a legend. Now we can be that god again, but its just more limited... Which is sad. I'm disappointed.
Exactly. It made what could be hell completely worth it. The feeling when you saw that vex mythoclast drop was even better.

Like they said that the raid guns in year 1 were stopping diversity. They weren't. We used every gun possible up until we got our elemental primaries. Most of them weren't even good in the crucible. The raid primaries were supposed to be very good, all raid drops weren't supposed to be very good. Now you're better off using a vanguard weapon.
