Many people like to say that Christians are bigots. This couldn't be farther from the truth. While there have been many bad people that say they are Christians, say Hitler, they all do something completely against the Bible, such as gassing Jews. Also, fun fact, Jesus and his apostles were all Jews. The lord God himself proclaimed Jews to be his chosen people. I don't think anyone who tries to exterminate Jews is very Christian.
So, back to the main point, Christians may be the most tolerant of all religions. “Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.”
1 John 4:11 NIV

This verse tells us that we should love everyone, regardless of their ideals or beliefs. So, to put it into modern terms, it tells us to be tolerant.

Edited by hrn1970: 3/29/2017 3:18:38 PMReligion is the greatest killer of human kind. Not too terribly tolerant when that reality slaps you in the face.

The Inquisition, 'nuff said.

Perhaps that's what the Bible says, but in reality, that's simply not the case. North Korea is called the People's Democratic Republic of North Korea, that doesn't make it so. While that's an extreme example, the same logic applies here.

I'll never understand Christianity. If Jesus and his apostles were Jews and God thinks Jews as the "chosen people" then why aren't all Christains Jews? Wouldn't it make more sense to have to same mindset and religion as God in the flesh? Also, bwahahahahahaha!!! "Tolerance." Yeah, Christains are very tolerant. *rolls eyes* Why did the pilgrims come to America again? Why did the protestants fight with the cathics hundreds of years ago? Why do religious nuts hate science, Athiests, Muslims, and gays? On a more personal note, why did my Catholic great grandfather say I would go to hell because I was baptised in a Lutheran Church and disowned my mother? Please. "Tolerance." Looking back on any part of human history since the creation of Christianity proves otherwise.

Edited by Silent: 3/30/2017 4:05:54 AMTolerant? What about the gays? I had a friend I'd known for awhile. He was pretty religous (Christian, I do believe) and he fell into a depression. Why, you ask? His family. As Christians, they believed that being gay was sinful. He was so afraid that if they found out, they'd cast him away and disown him. Where is the tolerance there? A kid can't even be honest to his family because he's afraid of what the religion has made them believe. He was dedicated to his religion though. Despite knowing that not only did his own family think what he did was wrong, but even his own god didn't accept who he was, he still prayed and whatnot. Please explain. EDIT: Yeah, forgot a major part. He told me how he wished he wasn't gay. He knew it wasn't a choice, yet he's still a "sinner."

There is a difference between what christianity actually is vs what people nowadays believe.
-
The Bible also says you should be stoned to death for wearing more than one type of fabric, cutting your hair, laying with the same sex, believing in other Gods, blasphemy and so on. Christianity is NOT tolerant. Religion is about control. Nothing else.
-
Just because someones religion states that certain things, like homosexuality is a sin doesnt mean that person is a bigot. They simply disagree with their lifestyle choice and its their right not to embrace it. They dont hate that person, just the sin. Like all religions, there are some who take it to far. Like Westboro Baptist Church. God doesnt hate fags. He hates the sin. Im not to religious, but do believe there is a higher power out there.
-
As a Christian I do not hate anyone, but that doesn't mean I have to agree with them.
-
Nothing says tolerant like trying to pass laws enforcing your religious beliefs.
-
I haven't laughed this hard in a very long time. Thanks!
-
Not every Christian is a bigot, some are, some aren't. Same deal with every society on the planet.
This verse tells us that we should love everyone, regardless of their ideals or beliefs. So, to put it into modern terms, it tells us to be tolerant.
>gay people

What Christianity actually is #0 cherry picked contradictory rigid outdated nonsense.
-
I'm tolerant of all stories I put up with your mindset I even go along with the story of money . But I realise there all that.
-
Now if only there were more tolerant Christians running about...

Edited by pValue2010: 3/28/2017 4:38:29 PMBeing tolerant shouldn't require religion, but I'm glad you believe in tolerance. To be fair, though, the Bible isn't exactly tolerant of homosexuals.
Lev. 18:22 , "You shall not lie with a male as one lies with a female; it is an abomination." 2.Lev. 20:13, "If there is a man who lies with a male as those who lie with a woman, both of them have committed a detestable act; they shall surely be put to death. Their bloodguiltness is upon them." 3.1 Cor. 6:9-10, "Or do you not know that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals,1 10nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, shall inherit the kingdom of God." 4.Rom. 1:26-28, "For this reason God gave them over to degrading passions; for their women exchanged the natural function for that which is unnatural, 27and in the same way also the men abandoned the natural function of the woman and burned in their desire toward one another, men with men committing indecent acts and receiving in their own persons the due penalty of their error. 28And just as they did not see fit to acknowledge God any longer, God gave them over to a depraved mind, to do those things which are not proper."
God doesn't exist.
-
Your first was interesting, this is wrong. Not all Christians gas Jews, yes, but hardly any are tolerant.
-
Even of gay people? What you say reminds me of what my mom said when I was young, she said that even though It's wrong to be gay it's also wrong to be hateful assholes to them.
-
If your father was a serial killer and you knew what he was doing was wrong and he didnt would you not tell him it was wrong because you love him and dont want to see him get sent to prison? Christians should be tolerant for a time but in the end tell others they are wrong.

Edited by f3: 3/28/2017 11:11:48 PM
Many people like to say that Christians are bigots.
They probably saw all those "O'Reilly vs. Atheist" clips.
The lord God himself proclaimed Jews to be his chosen people.
Here's the thing about that: God liked jews, sure, but then Christianity was invented. It's like God's Microsoft, the jews are the Xbox 360, and Christians are the Xbox One. Once the One came out, Microsoft kind of stopped giving a shit about the 360. The only problem with that analogy is that God hates jews.
So, back to the main point, Christians may be the most tolerant of all religions.
But they don't tolerate gays or jews or muslims or most people of color.

This is one of the biggest teachings that supposed Christians seem to just ignore all the time.
