Okay let's get this out of the way, Bungie most definitely had a 10 year plan, and they most definitely marketed this game before release and in the beginning as you being able to have your character, develop them and take everything with you along the journey. Just because they are changing the story after the fact and hoping nobody takes the time to research it fully doesn't change that.
It's just sad that sooo many Desticles will buy into their bullshit and then will be okay with all their thousands of hours of hard work being tossed aside in an instant with a stupid joke in a trailer. Like literally they couldn't find a good way to transfer stuff over so they just did a simple hand wave and y'all are making excuses for it. It's not like people would take all heir gear and weapons with them. They would take only the ones that made sense and the shaders and emblems they really like but Bungie is doing away with even those.
There is no lore excuse for why shaders and emblems are gone and there is no lore excuse for why your vault in the outer region (name is slipping me) is gone. Not to mention here is just one quote backing up people getting the idea of the 10 year plan, "Destiny is powered by a new, internally developed set of engines, the product of six years worth of development, according to engineering lead Chris Butcher. "Our engine is fully multi-threaded for performance on all platforms, both today and for the next 10 years," Butcher said." <-- this is from 2013
