In this video I talk about how Playstation 5 coming out next year wouldn't be a bad thing!
Would PS5 coming out next year be a bad thing? Would you buy it?
Please, enjoy! (:

I don't see how it could be good. They just started pushing the pro and slim models. They'd essentially be -blam!-ing over anybody who bought one of those, not a good move IMO. Personally I think We'll hear about it at PSX in December with a launch date in late 2019. Unless the Scorpio starts to absolutely crush the ps4 then maybe they'll push it out sooner. But ps4 overall is still selling really well, even if the pro isn't selling quite as well as they'd hoped, so I don't see any reason to push out the next gen yet.

Edited by Nickel7Dime: 5/4/2017 4:15:20 AMIt would most certainly not be good for playstation, their pro sales have already be pretty low, so unless they would be making some drastic changes to the system (which even though technology moves fast, it doesnt move that fast), it would pretty much end up being the exact same thing everyone pretty much has, perhaps it could become on par with the scorpio but that is still not a major selling point for it since they have already done an attempted upgrade. It is just simply to much to fast. The ps4 pro is already mot selling nearly as well as they had hoped (and no where near what the regular ps4 is selling), i cant imagine that trying the same thing again after such a short period of time will be a good idea, i also cant imagine that sony is thinking that this would be a very good idea either. Doing something like this would also mess ip their game development, which as most people know is where companies like microsoft and sony make the majority of their money. In fact they make almost nothing on console sales and often even sell at a loss. However they know that console sales usually equal game sales, so they make more money in the long run. The ps4 has sold very well, so i cant imagine they want to then start to take another huge loss to get another generation of console out to customers. You want to know why the ps3 and xbox 360 lasted so long, it is because they had a console in pretty much every houshold and they were systems that could just keep pumping out games (which they released a lot near the end). Sony isnt about to undo all of its hard work on a new generation that might not end up selling (there by putting them in a hole that they had no reason to be near).

Yes, them pushing the PS 4 Pro would have been pointless.
-
Horrible and Unlikely. Horrrible in that it would set game development for the system itself back even further. Unlikely in that it took them about ten years just to get off the PS3 and onto the PS4. Whenever Xbox leaks or announces a new console, expect Sony to do the same. It's how those two tend to play anymore. Meanwhile, Nintendo is busy scraping the bottom of the trash can for whatever remnants of dead horse content they can find.
-
It would be ridiculous for Sony to make such a move. Even if backwards compatibility worked they wouldn't sell a whole lot. It's been too soon since the pro, and that hasn't sold much. The system wouldn't be much better than the Scorpio, might as well wait a few years to run 4k games incredibly smoothly. If there were ps5 exclusives they would be separating their fanbase. Not a good move. But they'll do what they want. If it were released next year it would seem like a desperate move to compete with the Scorpio.

I think the next generation will happen when 4k becomes cheap
-
After thinking about it it wouldn't be the shortest gen of console. Xbox 360 came out 3 years after Xbox. But I think from here on out there will never be a generation. All games will play on every console.

Edited by Kankunation: 5/2/2017 6:48:38 PM2018 seems a bit early. 2019 sounds fine if not 2020. I think Sony would be smart to follow Microsoft's lead on this one and get rid of generational releases. For Microsoft it no longer really matters when a new console comes out because the whole game and all library will transfer over with all previous features. Sony releasing a ps5 right now or next year with all new releases will cut off a lot of gamers, especially with how games are more of a service nowadays than a consumer good. Splitting populations and making everyone rebuy games in never fun.

I don't need any more consoles, I already have 5
-
Edited by Vizard: 5/1/2017 4:52:14 PMYes, too early. Shit should come out around 2020-22 with 8K+, 500 FPS, etc etc etc.
-
If they do, they should make it upgradable and have you be able to choose your parts... Oh wait that's a PC
-
I dont see how they could do it unless it was ridiculously expensive, even if they did it wouldn't sell a whole bunch. But hey if they wanto do it, its all good. Especially if it means better/more games for their VR unit.
-
My PS4 is still running beautifully. Don't see a need to upgrade yet (and don't want to).
-
Bad idea lol
-
Because I just bought the ps4 pro last year..
-
The PS4 is currently selling very well. It would be stupid for Sony to release a PS5 next year.

Edited by Sideswipe: 5/1/2017 11:51:56 PMNew consoles coming out every 4-5 years instead of 6-8 is bad thing considering there are very titles that allow cross generation play and no backwards compatibility. If my friends are still on last gen and I can't play with them on my current gen, why rush to buy it? If I buy a new gen console and there are very few games to play, what's the rush to buy it since I can't put my last gen games in it? I'd be more inclined to purchase a new gen console if these things are applicable. Otherwise, I'm waiting 2-3 years for the price drop. How about a console that supports hardware upgrades? Cheaper for the consumer and little need to worry about the concerns listed above...
-
Well considering Pro hasn't even been out a year, yea. It would be a very dumb move to release it that soon. My guess is we won't see next gen consoles until at least 2020
-
Too early. Consoles shouldn't be thrown around willy-nilly every half a decade. Rather they should be timed to release after a certain generation of technological advancement.
-
No reason for the PS5 to come out next year. Sony has sold 60 million PS4. Even with Scorpio releasing this year MS has its work cut out before Sony will even have to worry about it
-
-blam!- yeah it would be. The PS4 is doing better than ever. Trying to get 50+ million people to switch to a new console so soon after the last one has come out is terrible for business. They missed their chance to nail the ".5 console". Sony is still doing generational releases.
-
It's too early honestly PS4 Pro came out very recently already and it supports 4k. It would be a better move waiting for 8k or whatever the next best resolution is and tune it to that. Also, if they started releasing new consoles each year, you might start annoying the fanbase slightly. A console isn't like a mobile where you get a new one each year. It's something most people keep playing for years before getting a new one
-
Edited by Babayaga1016123: 5/1/2017 6:56:33 PMIt would be a horrible thing. It doesn't need a new system to make it. Ps4 is destroying any and all competition in the gaming world. Still has new ips coming out and bundles and price drop. Plus all the good 3rd party support. 2019 will be fine in my opinion but alot of people are saying it's coming in 2018. I would buy it regardless but would rather wait another year.
I do believe the talk of it having 10 t-flops and just getting crazy powerful. But once you hit 4k no need to go higher. 4k and 8k look damn near the same.
-
wait until 2019-2020 at the very least to even tease it
-
I feel like it's too soon. My PS4 is running low on memory, but that's the only thing that's wrong with it at this point. I like my PS4, and I'm not ready to switch. I like the 8 year console life. This would only be 6 I think.
-
The dominance of the XB 360 led to nearly 10 years of stagnation in console gaming. Being able to get more powerful hardware is never a bad thing, unless it leads to a fractionation of the market. (IOW, PS5 can't play PS4 games, and vice versa) Though I think we've seen the end of this in the console market. I think consoles are going to be more like PCs going forward. Every few years we get a significant upgrade in hardware....and the ability to run better versions of the same games as a result.
