"Falk, let's at least hear her out. It's better then staying here and trying to argue!"

"Well that's a relief. Next question, why even bother reveling yourself and talking to me?"
-
Edited by Inflatablepants: 5/5/2017 8:05:05 PM"Because I have something to tell you Zane." The man told him. He raised his hands to the fire and rubbed them together.
-
"And what would that be?" He asked. Perhaps this man is a nightingale, would explain his strange attire. He thought to himself.
-
The man held his hands together and lowered them to his knees. He sat cross legged by the fire and he didn't answer Zane immediately. Then, he looked up to Zane, his brown eyes darted at him. "I am going to kill you, Zane." He then said. The man said it so casually but Zane couldn't help but feel that there was something else there in his voice.
-
"Huh, your more then welcome to try. Many have tried...." He flicked his wrist and his Wicked dagger formed in his hand. He licked the blade before pointing it at the masked man. His eyes went dark, and his inner killer woke up for a just a second. "All have failed....."

Edited by Inflatablepants: 5/5/2017 8:14:54 PM"I am aware." The man told Zane as he continued to sit where he was. "None of them were me." He looked up to Zane, then looked back into the flames. "Relax while you can. I won't kill you now."
-
He spun the dagger then dismissed it, his eyes returning to normal. "Why do you even want to kill me?"
-
"Duty, really." The man told Zane. But out of all the things he had told him, these two words seemed different then the rest. The man adjusted one of his belts across his chest and showed Zane the nightingale medallion on his shirt. But something wasn't right here. The nightingales only used child soldiers. This was a man talking to Zane now.
-
"As I thought, you work for them. But the clan only uses child soldiers, and you seem more then child....." He looked at the masked man again, studying his features. "Wait a minute....Your eyes look very familiar."
-
The man continued to look into the flames. He looked up to Zane for a moment before he spoke. "I decided sending children after you wasn't effective. So here I am with a promise to give to you. You won't know when, you will know why. But I will end your life, Zane. Your family will be there, that much is certain. But you won't know if it will happen while you sleep, or if you will be taken down by simply walking down the street. But, you will be damned no matter what." Then, Zane heard voices coming from the tunnel. "Zane? You still here?" Asked Falk from down the cave.
-
"Yeah Falk, I'm still here!" He yelled back before turning to where the masked man was. "You couldn't be...."
-
Edited by Inflatablepants: 5/5/2017 8:43:58 PMBut, he could not ask the man his question. All that took the space where he sat was emptiness and the ash from the fire pit. Falk walked in, with Anne behind him. "The base looks like it has a small path that leads down to it." Falk told Zane. "We'll take that when we reach the place tomorrow."
-
"Sounds good. Oh by the way Anne, you forgot your bag when you left. I was about to bring it to you but...." He stopped, and decided to not tell his friends about the masked man. He handed the bag to her. "Heh, guess I just spaced out."
-
"Oh!" Anne said as she took the bag and slung it around her shoulder. She didn't check it's contents however. "Thanks, Zane." Falk looked to Zane for a moment, his eyebrows were furrowed. "Everything okay Bud?" Falk asked him.
-
"Yeah man I'm good. Just a bit tired is all." He yawned and stretched to demonstrate this. Truth be told he was still tired
-
"Ya, I'm with you on that one." Falk told him. "Let's get some rest. Tomorrow is gunna be a busy day." "I'll take first watch." Anne said as she walked out of the cave once more. Falk looked at her and let out a sigh before he laid down by the flames.

He did the same, his mind racing with thoughts of the masked man. His eyes were so familiar, but it couldn't have been him, could it?
-
With that, his mind kept racing into the depths of the cold mountain night.
End of chapter Twenty
