Lafayette and Kendrick grabbed their bags and stepped onto the Tower plaza. Only a few Guardians were visible running around. The two friends went to the vaults and collected some necessary gear.
"Hey, Xephos, would you mind picking out some patrol bounties for us?" Lafayette asked as he pulled out an old beauty: The Hawkmoon.
"Okay," the ghost replied blandly. The steel ghost scurried away to scan the daily choices.
"So, what happened to Oliver?" Lafayette asked as he turned to Kendrick.
"F***!" The titan yelled. He pulled his head out of the vault with a snow-dreg mask stuck on. "I can't get it off..." He said as he tried to take the thing off his helmet.
Lafayette snickered. "I can't help you there. I guess you'll just have to wear it until it melts..."
"But... Oliver went out with some friends and had a few too many chips," Kendrick looked past his warlock friend. "Speak of the devil..." The titan took an old baseball glove out of the vault and held it into the air.
POP!! The bullet of the ghost crashed into the glove. Kendrick lowered his arm and looked at the fiery shelled Oliver, now asleep.
Lafayette spun around and looked at the vapor trail caused by the speeding ghost. He followed the trail all the way back into the City. "How many chips did he have?..." Lafayette asked as he slowly spun around.
"Two, three... twenty..."
"Holy!" The warlock exclaimed. "I don't think you should be in a firefight while your ghost is... whatever is wrong with him. I don't think that is simply being drunk,"
"What do you want to do?" Kendrick asked. The giant snow-dreg mask began to weigh on the titan's head.
"Snowball fight?" Lafayette chuckled.
"Har, har, har..." Kendrick said.
"I'm sorry, I can't take you seriously with that on. Um, I don't know. The simulator?"
The two Guardians walked down into the inner workings of the Tower. They pushed open large doors and walked into a combat simulation chamber. Kendrick and Lafayette walked to a table and sorted through their equipment.
"What are you running?" Lafayette asked as he checked the sights of his Hawkmoon.
"Is that really worth asking?" Kendrick replied as he held up his two submachine guns.
"Right," Lafayette said as he nodded. "Don't forget to leave Oliver here," the Awoken reminded.
"Oh, yeah! Right," Kendrick placed his fiery shelled ghost on the table.
Both Guardians walked into the arena and readied their weapons. The programmable matter, glimmer, morphed into the shapes of Vex robots. Goblins began swarming the two friends. Kendrick and Lafayette stood back-to-back as they gunned down the attackers. After three minutes, it was over.
"That was... too easy," Lafayette said as he twirled his hand cannon around his finger.
"Yeah, you're right," Kendrick looked around. "Let's bump it up some!" he exclaimed before switching the difficulty to seven!
"Oh no..." Lafayette said as he turned back to the arena. Several minotaurs spawned in the room! The warlock's eyes began to bulge out of his head.
"We got this!" Kendrick yelled as he shook Lafayette's shoulder. He pulled out his submachine guns and open fire on the Vex! He danced around the targets as they tried to crush him. The surprisingly agile titan had gunned down three, all to the warlock's surprise.
Lafayette wasn't about to let his friend have all the fun! He ran forward, firing off four rounds of his cannon! The shields of a minotaur broke, exposing the fake Vex to incoming fire! Kendrick reloaded his submachine guns and pelted the vulnerable robot! The Vex exploded onto small glimmer cubes.
The other three minotaurs surrounded the titan and warlock. They opened fire, slowly damaging the Guardians' shields. "Jump!" Lafayette shouted. The warlock jumped into the air, then threw down a massive nova bomb! By the time he softly floated back to the ground, the Vex were defeated.
Kendrick twirled his dual weapons, then holstered them. "Still not the challenge I'm looking for," he said as he walked to the edge of the arena.
"Now what?" Lafayette asked as he blew the barrel of his smoking gun.
"Now, let's bump it up to eleven!" Kendrick exclaimed as he flipped the switch.
"This can't be good..." the warlock groaned.
Before any Vex could spawn, Kendrick had run to the center of the arena. "Come on! Give it your best shot!!" He yelled. A single gigantic hydra spawned in, then looked down at the puny Guardian. "Oh..." Kendrick said as he became petrified.
The hydra began flexing its metal plates, charging up energy. A single pulse of arc energy emitted from the base, sending the titan into the wall!
"S***!" Lafayette shouted as he ran over. "Xephos, shut down the simulator!" Lafayette checked Kendrick's pulse, then carried him outside. Soon, the Vex construct broke into glimmer cubes to be recycled for the next round.
