Hey all, Muzzy here. As revealed in this video by Playstation at around the 4:00 mark, we are regaining our powers via a Shard of the Traveler near the European Dead Zone. But what if I told you that this information isn’t new and that we’ve known it for a while?
In the Age of Triumph update, the Speaker was given several pieces of idle dialogue, most of them pertaining to Destiny 2. Consider the following quote:
There are survivors out there. Not all of them want to join us beneath the Traveler.
This is most likely referring to Hawthorne and the settlement known as the Farm, which will be the primary social space for the campaign.
The Speaker also makes a bunch of other little interesting comments as well in his idle dialogue:
There are rumors that the Shard still exists. I feel its pull.
The journey will be dangerous, but if we could find the Shard...
There are Ghosts searching the Dead Zone. Perhaps they'll find something there.
As we now know, the Shard provides a means for Guardians to reclaim their power in D2. Ulan-Tan theorized that all Light is connected across space and time. Since this Shard isn't connected to the main body of the Traveler, it isn't being subjected to the Cabal's interference. For more on Ulan-Tan and his theory on the Light, I refer you to this post.
Credit for finding this dialogue goes to Haffoc. He and I talked about the dialogue a lot when it first came out and together, we theorized that we would actually find a shard of the Traveler to regain our Light in Destiny 2. Obviously, that’s now confirmed, and we were pretty elated to find out that we had guessed right.
Haffoc doesn’t write lore posts like I do, but if you look around on the lore tag here on the bungie forums, you’ll be sure to find his stuff. He spends his time perusing the lore tag and commenting on various posts and threads, so you can his stuff scattered in there.
As for me, you can find more of my stuff in the Muzzy Archive.

Who gave up the location of The Tower? Who is the traitor? I have a theory...do you?
-
I thought we took the shard back to the traveler.
-
Whenever I feel blue, I re-watch CNN's election night coverage
-
The Speaker is actually the Cryptarch's brother and he is the reason why my RNG is hot garbage. I'll kill him myself if he isn't dead already.
-
there was a mission on the moon i forget which where the hive had acquired a shard of the traveler to poison it using magic. still any light that a shard contains may very well be seperate from the main body and not subject to any shared conditions.
-
Very nice, i could see fighting a light infused ghaul as a end raid boss as well muzzy. A raid towards the city!!
-
This is way better than that stupid Yor post you made the other day. Bump.
-
Bump for later?
-
Ooh, nice use of Ulan-Tan

You know what's -blam!-ed. Battlefield 1 runs smooth and beautifully on console with 60 fps with 16v16 and destiny 2 can't run 60 fps with 4v4. What the -blam!-?!

I figured as much that was the Shard of the Traveler seen in the Reveal trailer. But that brings me to another question.... Why is there a shard of the Traveler that seems to have fallen off? Better yet, why is it there? From my understanding, there is a possible link between Rasputin and the Traveler but I'm not too sure. Any lore buffs out there that could help me out?

The shard is supposedly near the Farm (new social space) and that's another reason for setting up there

You could look at Light as the Traveler being 'the Ocean' and then all the shards being 'lakes' or 'ponds'. Water, from the ocean, is lifted into the air upon evaporation. This gets turned into clouds, then storm clouds when enough water is accumulated (or the clouds go up against a high elevation), and the rain comes down. That happens enough, you could form ponds. Those ponds could all lead to a lake over time and so on. So... let's the the Cabal build a giant dome around all the ocean ever (not practical, but you get it). No more water reaches other places. However, the lakes and ponds continue this effect. This is all assuming that ground water isn't a thing. Lol That, in a sense, is the Light. The Light was cut off from us when the Traveler was captured. We could no longer tap into it. So, we found a smaller source of Light, but still the same Light, that could provide. As you get further and further away, unless water sources already exist there, the water will be less and less prevalent. This is the same as the Light. -- Now... the question would be, is Light stronger when it is more consolidated in one area? Or would it be more beneficial to cut the Traveler into little bitty pieces and scatter the shards everywhere so you always had a source of Light. Well, not the whole Traveler, but tear off a few dozen shards and hide them in special places. Remember, the Traveler was basically dead, so unless it's more powerful when it comes back to life... I see no downside to doing that. Of course, it's very likely that the Light is more powerful the more alive the Traveler can be. So, just a thought. But, since all Light is supposedly connected... this also causes a weakness. One shard gets out of hand and we saw what the Hive could do. They used the Shard as a sieve against the Traveler, which reveals a connection of sorts. Which is interesting... because does that mean when a shard is cut off from the Traveler, does it have a finite amount of Light? Or does it always still pull Light from the Traveler? Can the shard still connect to the Traveler even though that Cabal shield ship is around it? Or is the shard a permanent new source of Light... I don't think so, because we sent the Shard back for a reason. Just conjecture.

I heard the speaker say *there’s a storm coming* earlier today while i was in the tower........... He has probably been saying it a while and not really paying attention to his random lines of dialogue? but then you watched Destiny 2s gameplay event.........There was a storm during the Destiny 2 homecoming gameplay trailer :-O
-
I thought when the last flying the ship was carrying the speaker when she says I have the guardian you are always talking about in the back.
-
The Shard thing is true. DeeJ confirmed it on IGN Good call!
-
The Farm? I really hope that's not what it's really called. Will there be Walkers and a place called Sanctuary too lol
-
How do you feel about the AOT grimoire card "Cayde-6" directly talking about Nessus and IO and we didn't seem to say anything about it prior to the reveal as possibly being something for 2?
-
-
Ok but why would we lose our light in the first place if scattered Traveler debris are all over the place on the ground? Lol i call bs
-
Quick question, is the speaker still alive? At the reveal we saw his entire area was blown off the tower, they said he didn't board a ship, and Ikora didn't (in what we saw) find him.
-
Interesting post, but I downvoted because the first sentence you said was a massive spoiler with no warning at all.
-
I believe the raid will take us inside the traveler and we will be introduced to spaceship "Earth" I do not expect a fast moving raid but an informative one where "Communication" will be the key to this endeavor.
-
So that's what Zavala meant when he says to your Guardian on Titan:
If the Light can find it's way back to you, perhaps there's hope for us all.

-
Dude, put a -blam!-ing spoiler warning
-
Shard? Feels like the Dark Crystal to me.
