I finally made it to the Tower. Jade explained to me that this place was where all of the Guardians lived, plus, it was where the Vanguard organized attacks. I walked to the north part of the Tower, but there was not much there, only an old friend. Eva Lavante was very glad to see me. She left about a year after I had joined Shin’s posse to aid the Guardians in the Tower.
“It is good to see you, Pari!” Eva said, embracing me. “How have things been at the camp?” I explained to Eva that we had moved around a few times since she left, and that I had killed Alec the Deserter. Eva was glad to hear that that man was killed. “He never once thanked me for the armor and class item I gave him. It takes quite a long time to make those things. That’s why I now give Guardians shaders for their armor and emblems too. In fact, I’ll give you an emblem for free, since you’re my friend. How does that sound?”
Eva gave me an emblem for the TexMechanica foundry. Rightly so, since I had used two of their weapons now, even if one was just a copy of the original. I thanked Eva and then headed back to the central plaza, where a man was standing on a box calling for Guardians. “The Vanguard has now decreed that the Ahamkara are to be eradicated! However, we cannot accomplish this alone! We need Guardians! TexMechanica has graciously provided us with powerful weapons to use in order to kill these luck dragons, but these weapons are useless without Guardians to wield them!” Slowly, a crowd gathered around the man on the box, and I was among them. “If you want to protect your home, now is the time! Who will follow us to the ends of the solar system? Who will join us to destroy these abominations?”
I raised my hand. I was the first of everyone to do so. Slowly, another twenty raised their hands to join the hunt. “Is that all? These beasts have caused more pain to Guardians than any other! We must stop them before they become too great a threat to the City!” He was able to coax another ten people to join, bringing the total members of the hunting party up to thirty. When no more joined, he said, “This shall do. The thirty of us shall destroy these monsters. Now, gather your weapons and armor. There will be six of us headed to each destination, and a seventh in one of the groups. Meet back here in ten minutes.”
The crowd and the hunters disbursed all over the Tower. I walked down to where the Vanguard was located order to get my armor from Cayde-6. As I walked down, I saw those two Guardians I met in the Crucible talking to the handler. Lord Shaxx was what he was called by everyone. As I walked by, that Courtney girl turned her head, and gave me an angry stare. I simply continued to walk only faster so I could get away from her.
“Hello?” I asked. “Are you Cayde-6?”
“Why, yes I am! What’s your name, you pretty little thing?”
“First off, don’t call me that again, or I’ll shoot you.”
“She sounds like a perfect match for you, Cayde.” The Warlock Vanguard added in.
“Second,” I continued. “My name is Pari. I’m here for some armor.”
“That is something I can help you with! Here, take these.” With that, Cayde handed me a full set of armor. “It’s on the house! New Guardians going on a hunt need the best armor!”
“How did you…?”
“That guy’s been pushing hard for us to approve the eradication of the Ahamkara. We only just approved it an hour ago. Plus, I knew you were gonna fight them because I saw it on that monitor over there.”
With that, I equipped my new armor, and walked back to the plaza. I already had a sniper, plus I had the Bane of Ahamkara with me. The entire group reunited. The man who was on the box stood in front of us again. He divided us into groups. Each group was going to travel across a world to abolish the dragons. I was to fight on Earth, and soon, we left for the Ahamkara’s territory.
Since I didn’t have a ship, I got to fly with this man named Pahanin. The two of us talked for quite a while as we flew. I told him that my parents were killed when I was six, and then I was raised by Shin Malphur. Pahanin, while he was most certainly talking to me at some points, also seemed to be talking to someone else. “It’s my gun, Super Good Advice. He and I talk a lot”
“Riiight.” I replied, very skeptically. Apparently, he was paranoid that these things called Oracles would wipe him out of time.
“It’s a place called the Vault of Glass. After this hunt, I’ll be going there was Kabr the Legionless and Praedith from The Future War Cult.”
“Would I be able to join you?” I asked reluctantly.
“I don’t see why not. I’ll introduce you to Kabr and Praedith after this is over.”
Our group formed up in the center of the Ahamkara’s territory. We planted the beacon to let the dragons know we were hoping to make a deal. As soon as the dragons showed up, one of them walked over to me and asked, “What is it that you want, oh bearer mine?” We all pulled out our weapons, and were ready to shoot on the group leader’s command. “You cannot kill me with that gun, oh bearer mine!” the dragon told me.
“Just watch me!” I growled at him through my teeth.
“NOW!” the leader screamed. We fired over and over again. I put at least one bullet in each of the dragons’ heads, letting my team take the rest of the shots. Some of them I put two bullets in, making them fall instantly. Blood splattered on my armor, and it stained the sand. The battle was bloody. No one ever expected the dragons to fight back, and they didn’t. The dragons’ simply let themselves be killed by our weapons. After about an hour of hard fighting, they were all dead. Not a single luck dragon remained.
I walked over to the corpse of an Ahamkara, and laying on the ground next to its head was a tooth covered in blood. I put it on my necklace alongside the Daybreaker tooth. I had officially made myself a legend. I was a Dragon Slayer.
