With all the changes coming to Destiny 2...
My absolute favorite thing, and probably the best overall change to the crucible period, is the end of sniper dominance. For the entire lifecycle of the game, as well as being more pronounced in the first few months of year 2, the end-all be-all strategy has been sniping. It doesn't matter what you do, or how you play, planting your ass down a hallway or door, tossing grenades and sniping IS, and always will be the best way to play Destiny. If by chance, someone is able to challenge you, all you have to do is run and reset.
it doesn't even matter what sniper rifle you are using
The only counter when fighting anyone remotely proficient with a sniper rifle, is to snipe them back. The worst balance changes that Bungie have implemented, highlighted this glaring problem. Not to mention, most maps that were obviously designed for sniping, are some of the best for primary gun play, while the best sniping maps are obviously designed for CQC.
In my opinion, this has been Destiny's weakest design flaw. No matter what Bungie has tried, The game always ends up a snipefest. It is literally going to require a complete overhaul of the game to finally get rid of this bullshit. I am extremely excited to see it go... I have watched every crucible video that I could find for D2, and what I'm seeing, even ones featuring high-level players, there is only a fraction of the sniping that takes place in Destiny 1 across all modes.
I've got my popcorn ready, bring on the salt.

Idk I can kill people at sniper range with my fusion so.... I think I'm good without using a sniper.

For starters, this game has ALWAYS been shotgun dominated, aside from trials, and don't try saying it's the only competitive mode and it's what matters because if that was the case people would snipe in sweats, but they don't. Share this video https://youtu.be/kO9QEvPAunA
For the entire lifecycle of the game, as well as being more pronounced in the first few months of year 2, the end-all be-all strategy has been sniping.
Wrong.
The only counter when fighting anyone remotely proficient with a sniper rifle, is to snipe them back.
Wrong. Wrong.
No matter what Bungie has tried, The game always ends up a snipefest.
Wrong. Wrong. Wrong.
I've got my popcorn ready, bring on the salt.
No sir, you are the one holding all of the salt. If this game has been nothing but a 3 year snipe fest, we would have never seen: - multiple shotgun nerfs - multiple fusion rifle nerfs - the current sidearm meta we have now In my 3 years playing this game, the only time I experienced any issue with snipers was with the final round meta, and listening to the other team firing off two rounds at the start of the match. Snipers have been balanced for a long time, and have always been what they were in prior games made by Bungie: 1 shot to the face, 2 to the body. It is a high risk, high reward weapon, and in the right hands can be devastating, just like with previous games. HOWEVER, that does not mean there has not been a counter, because there always has been. Your inability to find it is not the devs fault. Any scout would cause crazy flinch on a sniper, the only sniper I know of with radar while zoomed was the Pat&Tim (which hardly anyone uses) so flanking is relatively easy considering every map has cover and side paths to get everywhere, and simply closing the distance on a sniper gives you the advantage. Just like it was since 2001 with Halo CE. Nothing has changed. After a certain point one simply has to accept that they need to improve rather than want a game to fit to their specific mold.

This is the worst thing ive ever had the misfortune to read. Your the typical sidearm/shotgun cancer

Edited by Droogzy: 5/27/2017 5:01:02 AMIt's not a matter of opinion, you're just flat out statistically wrong. The only time snipers have been dominant was when final round was popular. Shotguns have been a larger problem with this game largely due to how map design and mobility favors shotgun play over sniper play. You admit yourself in another post that you're a shotgun player and that shotguns have been nerfed more than snipers have been. It's not exactly a secret at this point that nerfs in this game happen as a knee jerk reaction to whatever is the most dominant/used weapon and archetype. So what does that tell you about shotguns? The icebreaker is popular now but that purely because it's completely circumvents the special ammo economy, not because it's powerful sniper rifle. It's a symptom to a much greater problem within crucible. Remove the scarcity of special ammo and you'll see the use of icebreaker disappear overnight, literally. Even then, the current meta favors sidearms by far.

If it's a sniper fest all the time then why do the best players only use shotguns at tournaments if they want to do well? You probably just rush at people like a monkey and wonder why you get domed
-
Ability kills and a shotgun aren't going to save you in Destiny 2... have fun with your thread though.
-
I could tell you how you are wrong, but just scroll through and read the comments with the most upvotes and you'll get the same message. Lol, sniper dominated game... how silly. Now... special dominated? You could argue that. But just snipers? Please... Lol. I still detest the silly 'mapador' craze too. Lol, please, mapador was not impressive if you experienced Felwinter glory. It was just a common tactic a lot of people used against a lot of other people who don't like shotguns in general anyway, and some will find any reason to shut them down just because 'killed by shotgun' popped up. Me personally, fusions were killing it after they got their buffs back. Before that, good Hand Cannons + Sniper + Sticky/AoE grenade were amazing. Oh, and life steal. Lots and lots of life steal. Have fun with your sidearm though. Because... yeah, that was the answer.

I don't understand is only sniping a problem? The objective is to win right so it's war any means necessary I don't get it everyone has access to snipers and everything else. If your good it shouldn't be a problem
-
I can't wait to not have no skill people rush me with shotguns like chickens with their heads cut off.
-
I predict Snipers will be the dominant PvE weapon in 2 until they get nerfed to shit
-
No salt. You're basically right. Bungie was unwilling to make the changes to the game necessary to properly balance primary weapons and special weapons. They were determined that the game would play and feel like Halo....but this resulted in a TTK that was too slow for player movement speed, and too slow to properly disadvantage people caught at longer ranges with a shotgun.....or close range with a sniper. The redesign of the Crucible was Bungie's admission of failure. So instead of balancing these weapons by allowing primaries to kill about 25-30% faster.....they are just going to treat these OHK weaposn as short-lived power-ups that dont' require balancing (like heavy weapons currently are).
-
Snipers have been in all shooters lol bungie wants to sell us a multiplayer shooter, but tell us what to use and how to play? Interesting
-
Yes because the game should revolve around the PvP cryhards and ruin the other half of the game because "someting kiwed me". PvP is the bane of this game's existence and its been proven again with D2.
-
Yeah I find it laughable that everyone took so long to get on the sniper wagon. Who knew a weapon with near perpetual up time that can be pin point accurate and retain high damage in all situations was going to be a problem. PvP in D1 was poorly designed, hell I wouldn't even think it more than an afterthought. So it wasn't the only problem lol. That said the general populace loves garbage so they will defend it. Destiny 2 looks like they actually put some thought into it. They even remixed the sounds to better fit the mode, it's like night and day how much they actually cared lol.

The main thing that bothers me with snipers is how little penalty there is for using a sniper. People can strafe from behind a cover with their aim perfectly lined up with your head, which they can't see yet and get a perfect crit kill. Any other game, if you moved at all, the sway would be insane. A lot people say flinch is pretty bad on snipers, but the amount of times i've been one shotted whilst popping some guy in the head with a scout rifle with HCR, whilst sidestepping quickly, says otherwise. No penalty to rapid fire, allowing people to 2 tap you in the body before you can even jump away. Running around using a sniper like a shotgun, hipfiring or quickscoping from a metre away. It's very frustrating.

😪not my poor icebreaker

I like aggressive, close quarters sniping with low zoom, light scope rifles: NLB, Uzume RR4. It's fun. On the other hand, I feel sad for hardscopers, camping at the end of sniper lanes, because that is the boring way to play the game. But it's their choice. I hope D2 would have proper sniper rifles for PvP with quickdraw/snapshot, low zoom, low range, and nice, light scopes. Cheers, LEXX

I like the d2 crucible changes from what I have seen.
-
Idk I do pretty well in pvp and sniper kills are probably way down on the list for me
-
Wow you couldn't be any more wrong lol felwinters sniper days? Matador days? Thorn days? You seem to be missing huge chunks of destiny memory.

As someone with a 1.0 KD, I think everyone here will attest to the fact that I am not a top tier player. My experience is definitely a layman's view. And I hope it brings a healthy balance of "git gud" and "Bungie Plz fix", because both are needed in a variety of ways concerning this game. I got into Destiny mid TTK. You know, when you could put a hand cannon to someone's temple and God would say "not today"? And I got a longbow pretty early on, noob me was all about the body then primary kill time. If I noticed you first and stuck to my guns, I could come out on top. Noob me got gud at bodying. Then, after playing for about three months, I discovered that the Plan C sometimes hits things. So I strapped on my big boy pants
Bones of Eao
and jumped around like a Tasmanian devil attempting to avoid shotgunners. Those were the golden days when QuickDraw was, well QuickDraw... anyway! Then I discovered that I sometimes hit head shots with my longbow. Boop! April update hit and I acquired my still favorite sniper rifle, Uzume RR4. TLW was just still meta enough with QuickDraw that I could pretend to be in a spaghetti western as I filled people's faces with lead. And boy did I have to spam my jumps even more as I did my best to consistently land headshots with many juggernauts attempting to CRASH MY PARTY. With, well...
party crasher...
So um, in my experience in this game, sniping was fun, but to this day my best game at 38 kills is with a Plan c and a Finalla's Peril. And that happened during the ROI Matador fiasco.
-
Did you just magically skip the shotgun metas?
-
If it's not snipers it'll be something else, mark my word. The one constant in this equation is that people here never quit bitching.

In case you haven't been paying attention since Destiny began: PvP is a lot like a flavor of the month. It's always changing. To say that snipes have always ruled PvP is totally false. I've seen literally every type of weapon and/or class be on top for a month or three. Take a snapshot in time from now for example: sticky nades
