Alright, so we all know that the Cabal are named after various ancient greek and roman things such as:
Phalanx: Alexander the Great's famous battle formation. Also a invincible shield space turtle.
Legionary: The main unit of Julius Caesar's army.
Centurion: The leader of a cohort or a century of 80 men.
Primus: The chief centurion of the legion or the commander of the first century within that legion.
Valus: Idk, Google said nothing there.
But then I found this weird thing.....Lysander.
Lysander was a Spartan leader who defeated the Athenian fleet during the Ionian war. Lysander's cry is a sparrow. Lysander is the leader of the....green faction that was defeated by new monarchy. I forget the name. Their symbol is a fist. The Cabal are very strong(like a punching fist) and are also named after ancient greek and roman military units.
Are the two related?
I realize now that this is a kinda weird idea, but hand me the feedback.
EDIT: Oh hey trending.

So Trump just destroyed the Paris climate concordat, therefore Trump=New Monarchy!!! Too true to be funny. It's just sad for humanity. Just gross.
-
Should have named them after all various types of trash Recycled Smelly Stinky Trump supporters Etc.
-
Concordat: (Lysander's faction) "an agreement or treaty, especially one between the Vatican and a secular government relating to matters of mutual interest." Maybe guardians/humanity are like the Vatican (light, traveler, etc.) and the cabal are a secular government. Maybe the concordat faction wanted to make an agreement or treaty with the cabal (or another enemy race) relating to a matter of mutual interest, like eliminating the hive or vex. Just a thought, no cards to back anything up.
-
Lysander, the Cabal spy. Has a nice ring to it.
-
Lysander is also the antagonist in Pokémon x and y 😏
-
The faction' s name is concordat. But I'd imagine not. The cabal were calling their fleet here back way before we had even heard of lysander. I'd assume that if his name were foreshadowing anything, it'd be an allusion to a guardian like Peloponnesian war between the Spartans (comcordat) and Athens (NM) But, that is wild speculation. Sometimes, names in the destiny universe mean nothing. Just look at the iron lord Timur. I'd assume it's a reference to the the conquerer, Timur the lame, as he was seen as one of the most feared of the iron lords. But looking at his card, his interaction with other iron lords, and etc, he shows nothing regarding Timur the lame.

It was a formation of soldiers that had long pointed spears that would out range most of the enemies weapons, exceptions being bow or cannon.

Alexander the Great and his phalanxes were Greek, a better name would have been testudo...

How about Darnath Lysander? Maybe he left the back door open.

That's actually really cool man. But I really don't wanna sound like a douche cause I can see myself doing something like this. But it made me realize....
people have waaaaayyyyyy too much time on their hands
Lysander was also a character in a midsummer nights dream.

Each enemy type has some theme to it. Fallen - Pirates Hive - Medieval Hierarchy Vex - Greek and English Monsters Cabal - Greek and Roman Units

Since the Concordat was disgraced and ousted from the tower, maybe Lysander dimed us out to the Cabal by filling in their knowledge gaps about the Traveler as the source of our power as a way of taking his revenge? Could explain why they hit us right where it hurts the most at the start of D2, while in D1 they're scrambling just to piece together a viable strategy to deal with our shenanigans and the unwinnable war of attrition we have them mired in.
-
Pretty cool. It's amazing how many names in destiny pop up elsewhere, or more to the point how many places, people and things in history pop up in destiny. Sometimes I've not heard of something until I hear it in destiny and then months could pass and I could be watching a documentary or something and then bam! There it is. That's where it came from.
-
The vex are too
-
A 4th faction would be cool. Maybe they'll implement faction wars.
-
That's a very nice theory. I see substance
