Cyra Kingsley "Error 404," Cyra would respond extremely lazily as she slowly sat up. "Neither identity nor shits found." While on the outside, Cyra made a sarcastic remark and pretended not to care, she thought about the being's question; it was one her computerized self said to answer as "I am Cyra Kingsley", but the part of her computer-brain more connected to emotions and personality would actually ponder a great amount.

  • "You don't know your identity either?" The figure took a step forward and crouched down slowly in a curious manner. Its emotionless face turned to the side slightly and looked down, as if sad. "I am so lost." It then looked back at Cyra. "Maybe we can help each other?"

  • Cyra blinked at the figure, cocking her head slightly to the right. She made, quite literally, a split second decision. "Sure. We can help each other find ourselves. ... in truth, I had forgotten who I was a while back, to be replaced with a cruel, emotionless machine."

  • "Replaced by a machine? What do you mean? You seem organic to me." The mechanical looking figure sits down in front of Cyra. "Can one forget who they are? Do you have amnesia?"

  • For a moment, Cyra fell into a state of utter silence, before avoiding the question altogether. "What are you? Where are we? And... why am I here? ... in this place, specifically. I'm not good with philosophy." She smiled, signifying that the last part was meant to be a joke.

  • The figure stared down at the ground again, looking sad once more. "I'm sorry, but I do not know the answer to any of your questions. Whether or not that was philosophical does not change my answer." It looks back up and cocks its head to the side. "What are you doing?...With your mouth? You're making a "u" shape with it. Does that mean something?"

  • Cyra looked at the figure, and the expression disappeared; she now looked more solemn. Understanding... even relatable. "... a while back, I think around 45 years ago, I forgot what it was, as well. To this day, I still haven't found a reason for it... a reason for why I must maintain a personality. It's called a smile. Smiles are used when somebody wants to express happiness. That's about all I can tell you."

  • It reached up to its "face" with its hands and seemingly searched for a mouth before resting its hands back at its sides. "I don't believe I can smile. Does that mean I can't express happiness? Hmm. Why did you forget? For some reason I keep thinking of the word amnesia."

  • "I guess it means that you need to find a way to express happiness in some other way. ... everything able to think for itself ends up being able to express emotion in one way or another. I believe that it's a curse." She now looked away from the being, off into nowhere. "Why I forgot? Because there was simply no need for me to remember, I guess."

"No need? Maybe I shouldn't use up my memory with it either than." The figure looks over where Cyra is staring. "Are you looking at some-" There's a slight buzzing noise and the being's face flashes blue a few times before returning to its normal color. "Oh....Now I feel...sad? ... For you? Why? Hmm... ...for some reason I believe I may have gone through something like you have and because I know the pain I feel closer to you. Like there's a connection....Is this compassion?" It looks back at Cyra.

  • Cyra would return the being's gaze almost emotionlessly. "... compassion?" Conveniently, she ran a Google search within her mind. Even her OS could support Google. "Compassion: Sympathetic pity and concern for the sufferings or misfortunes of others." The augmented female thought on that for a moment, running quick comparisons and searches matching the definition with things that already exist within Cyra's disc space. "... 'compassion' was never programmed into my OS. Another thing I'm missing, I guess." She sighed, defeated.

  • "Never programmed? You need emotions programmed into you?...Do you want to feel compassion? For some reason I believe I know that an OS stands for operating system and for some other reason I see strange...patterns when you say programming. Maybe I could help?" The figure talked quickly, as if excited for some unknown reason.

  • Cyra's gaze was solemn, and she shook her head at the being sadly. "In truth, I find emotions cumbersome. The one who programmed them into me... I don't know why he did. But he made me swear to him that I'd never get rid of them.... He said nothing about adding new emotions. And as such, I'd really rather not... my apologizes." She said the last bit apologetically; a part of her wished she could simply be a normal person, and feel things normally.

"Emotions are cumbersome?...Hmm. How so? Maybe I should delete mine?" The figure now looked off into the distance as if in deep thought. "For some reason I feel like someone once told me emotions are what make me alive....Hmm....I do not have access to the full memory. I can't even recollect you said that or why."

  • "I feel as though emotions are cumbersome because... they bring up unwarranted thoughts. Unnecessary memories. They affect your decision making... and end up putting you through more pain than not." She shook her head when the being suggested deleting his emotions. "In a way, I don't want emotions precisely because they make me alive... I've a feeling that I don't deserve to be considered alive. I'm a feeble excuse for a living organism, if anything... not truly alive, for I'm merely a computer in a flesh and blood body. "... but you should keep your emotions. At least, that's what he told me."

  • "Why would you think you don't deserve life? I'm not organic in the slightest. Does that mean I don't deserve life even more than you?" The figure shook its head. "I believe you deserve to be alive."

  • "Error. I said that I felt as though I didn't deserve to be considered alive." She looked away, her eyes clouding as she made dozens of calculations and researched hundreds of bits of information in seconds. "Eukaryotic organisms, especially chordates like I, generally operate via a brain. Can I still be considered a part of these people if I do not operate via a flesh and blood brain...? Personally, I believe I can't. But nonetheless, while my heart still beats and my blood still flows, I am alive."

  • "I do not have a brain. Does that mean I cannot be considered alive?" It cocks its head to the side again. "Maybe you think poorly of emotions because the ones you are missing are necessary for your mind to work at full capacity."

  • "Perhaps it means you can be considered alive, but not part of the same species or family as the people you exist around... in my experience, that's the case." Cyra then thought on the possibility that she was missing emotions. Which she knew she definitely was. "I am most certain that I am missing a good amount of emotions. But whether or not I am missing important ones, I'm unsure."

  • "If I were you I would seek help to fill in the missing emotions. You can always get rid of them if you don't like them, right?" The figure slowly stands back up, its knees make a loud whirring noise as it does so.

  • "In truth, I don't get to decide what emotions I like or dislike. There's a program installed on my OS that determines what's safe and what isn't safe... if the program dislikes it, it gets purged. ... the program was installed by the same person who installed the augments, so what he likes stays, basically. Otherwise... I would accept emotion aid whenever the need arises."

  • "Oh. So if something isn't safe it'll be deleted anyway. What's the harm in trying then?" The being's "wings" begin to move around in a stretching like motion.

  • "Off to? What do you mean?" It keeps moving its wings for a few more seconds before folding them behind its back. "The wings? I just get this strange urge to do that sometimes."

"Oh. I wouldn't know, one would assume that the limbs of a wing would be just like other limbs." She looked over her shoulder at her own back, in thought. "Or maybe different limbs have different habits."

  • "They do for me. For some reason I feel this urge to move my wings sometimes." The figure suddenly raised the wings again. "You know, I've never actually tried flying with these."
