"Come on, Colt!" I shouted as I ran after the swarm. I ran down the road, keeping my eyes in the sky. The swarm was just ahead, but I was unable to keep up. "No! No, no, no!" I shouted.
Suddenly, I was tackled to the ground. I was completely subdued as we rolled around. I tried to fight, but I couldn't do anything; and the swarm was getting away. I tried to break free, but it was useless.
"Hit me..." the person whispered quietly.
"What?..." I asked, completely confused.
"Just hit me!..." the man exclaimed in a quiet voice.
"Where?"
"Anywhere!"
I barely tapped the titan in the gut with my elbow; he obviously overreacted, then let me go. I got to my feet and ran a couple of steps before stopping and looking at who it was. The titan was wearing a strange cyan blue armor with fur around the collar. It was Blake; he nodded to me, then continued to hold his gut out of "pain".
I smiled under my helmet; he was letting me get away. I looked up to see Dakota and Kourtney also running after me. I gave a slight nod to Blake, then ran away from the team.
"Did he get it?" Dakota asked quietly as he helped Blake up.
"I believe so," the titan replied as he dusted his armor off.
"Now, Alan knows we're on his side," Dakota continued. Just then, the City Guard drove up on sparrows.
"You let him get away?! Again?!" Captain Carter exclaimed, furious.
"He's a slippery one..." Blake replied.
"Are you worth anything?! I'll have to report this failure to Commander Zavala..." The titaness said as she pulled out a notepad.
"Will that be before or after you mention that your entire unit has failed to catch him?..." Blake asked as he tapped the clipboard. Captain Carter looked up at the defender, then growled.
"It does appear that you have been equally unsuccessful as us. However, with a unit of twelve..." Doc began running numbers in his head. "Your success rate is expected to be four times that of a standard fireteam, such as ourselves..."
"Yeah! Keep talkin', b****!" Monica shouted, getting overly excited. All four Guardians turned to her out of shock. "I'm sorry, I got carried away..." she said before vanishing into Kourtney's helmet.
I could see the swarm creating a ring above a building. I tried to run faster, but I was getting exhausted; nonetheless, I kept running. I fired a grapple to the top of the building between me and the SIVA. Once I made it to the top, I could see an army of drones invading a house. My house!
Several drones began eating away at the siding of the house while a small group entered the building. I could already feel rage building back up in me. I created a massive spear, then jumped off the building; driving the spear through the neck of one drone. I spun around and stabbed another, making a SIVA skewer.
"Help!!" Cried a high pitched voice; that belonging to a young child.
"Conner!!" I shouted back. I ran into the house while I whipped out my Ace and shot down five drones without stopping. I looked around, but I had no idea where the SIVA went. "Conner?!" I shouted.
"Alan?!" I heard from above me. I rushed up the stairs to see Conner trying to fight off the drones with his own pellet rifle. He tried to be brave, but tears were rolling down his face. My two arms grew into wrist daggers again.
I ran and jumped into the air; as I came back down, my right arm sliced the first SIVA bot in half. I spun around and stabbed the drone that flew in from the window, then threw the machine into three more that came up from the stairs.
"Don't! Touch! My! Brother!" I shouted as I grabbed the head of the drone that was attacking Conner. I melted its core with the sheer Solar energy in my hands.
Two more drones came at me from either direction. They were both carrying swords, and both swung for my head. I crouched down, then stabbed both in the abdomen.
I turned to the kid hiding in the corner after the fight ended. "Conner, is Dad's shotgun where it always is?" I asked. "Or did he move it?"
"It... should... still be there..." the kid replied through a broken voice.
I retracted my blades then ran down stairs. In the closet near the kitchen, I found my Dad's trusty Chaperone model shotgun. Fire burned in my eyes as I clenched the gun tightly. Suddenly, the steel engravings turned an angry red and the sights ignited into flames.
I walked outside with a modified Golden Gun, ready to destroy any more of Vanessa's drones. The remaining SIVA turned to, and charged, at me. Pow! I blew a two inch diameter hole into the first drone. I whipped the lever of the gun, then pow!. I exploded another. I ducked under the swing of one drone, chambered the next 'shell', then pow! I blew the head off of its body. Pow! I blew through the chests of three drones standing in a line.
With my Light drained, I placed the gun on my back and got my daggers back out. The last two SIVA drones began fleeing down the road; it was a good idea, but they weren't getting away. I ran after them, stabbed both in the head and forced them to the ground.
I raised my arms up and looked at the nanomite blades that had replaced my hands. "Wow. These things are useful," I said to myself.
Back inside, I crouched down beside Conner and rubbed his hair. "Where's Mom?" I asked him.
"Grocery shopping..." he replied. I rolled my eyes. Of all the things my warlock mother could have been doing during a SIVA attack, grocery shopping was the last thing I expected.
"Well, for now on, you stay with her. You hear?" I said sternly.
"Uh, huh..." he replied weakly. "Alan?..." he asked.
"Yeah?" I asked in return.
"What's on your arms?..."
I swallowed. "It's nanotechnology, called SIVA. It can be used to build anything; for me, arms..."
"Like... those robots?..." he asked.
"Yeah..."
"Are you... working with them?"
"Conner, I just whooped their tails; for like the fourth time now!" I said with a laugh. "No, I'm still good,"
"But what about the SIVA?" Conner asked.
"The person controlling it is bad. However, the Tower doesn't understand that. Guardians are looking for me, and they'll be here soon. If they ask about the rogue hunter, just tell them 'he saved you'... It'll help me out a lot," I replied.
"You're the rogue hunter that I've been hearing about?" Conner asked.
"Yes, but don't believe everything you hear!" I heard people running through the first floor of the house. "Remember what to tell them!" I said as I jumped out of the window.
"Got it!" Conner replied.
I perched myself on the roof and waved Conner good-bye before running off. While walking down the street, I fixed my cloak and pulled it back over my helmet. "That's it, Vanessa... You're going to regret that..." I said through gritted teeth.
