I think this is especially prevalent in pvp. I personally prefer the bigger maps and bigger teams. I enjoy being able to run off alone occasionally and not stay completely focused the whole time. Bigger maps and bigger teams makes it much easier to do this since you're not constantly in line of sight of someone or being chased down by a a 3-man gank squad
I understand that bungie is trying to make pvp more competitive and try to give D2 more e-sport potential but I don't think it should be done at the expense of casual players. The focus on creating fireteams and joining clans serves to alienate people who don't have the time to dedicate themselves to trying to find a network of players to team up with all the time.
I definitely believe that D2 has the potential to become a more serious competitive game but I also think that can be done without alienating the players who aren't intrested in doing that. I don't like being the guy who complains and doesn't suggest a solution, so here's my 2 cents: keep the competitive play list as it is now. It's very well balanced for that kind of gameplay, especially with its focus on mechanic skill with weapons instead of overpowered space magic. However, change the quick play play list to be more in tune with casual play. Maybe have bigger maps and bigger teams, or have an arcade playlist with drastically increased ability/super regen. Make more heavy ammo spawn and give us open spaces for vehicles and big skirmishes with grenades and supers being thrown left and right.
TL;DR: keep the competitive playlist hoe it is. It's well balanced and is designed well for a competitive player. However don't make that the only option for players. When the full game releases give players the choice between the small maps and focused gameplay and bigger more open maps that allow players to run around and not constantly feel there is a group of 3 enemies ready to insta-melt them as soon as they turn a corner.
Ps. Before anyone starts saying I'm just bad; I usually am near the top of the leader board when I play solo and do even better when I play with a fireteam. I just don't have fun when I'm tense the whole match because I have to play hard to just stay alive. I simply prefer casual gameplay because I play games to relax and have fun.

Are we playing the same game? I'm super casual and this is the most inviting the crucible has ever been.
